This petition is here to help show the overwhelming support for continuing Imperial College Medics' sport at Teddington, the home of St Mary's sport since 1937, and to demonstrate outrage at the lack of consultation in yet another area so pivotal to the student experience.
This lack of consultation and disregard for student input on their own experience of university is in stark contrast to the comments made by the university after the Acton fiasco.
I quote our president in an email to the medical school, where he says: 'Such big decisions, that disrupt the history and traditions of our medical school, should not be made without the students being consulted.'
The old Chelsea and Westminster ground was sold off to Chelsea Football Club in a similar fashion, we can't let this happen to Teddington. The Teddington ground was a donation to the medical school in 1937 by Lord Beaverbrook, a great philanthropist. He donated it at the request of the Dean of the medical school at the time so that medical students would throughout the year have somewhere to play. Any change in usage pattern morally contradicts the spirit of the gift.
The new Heston grounds will be inaccessible for a lot of clinical students, who will have to choose between attending hospital placements or Wednesday sport. Despite this Sport Imperial still claim to"actively encouraging participation in physical activity across levels, leaving no doubt that this is the place to be to fulfill both your academic and sporting aspirations."

UPDATE: Both Unions united. Consultation on this kind of decision needed. They are fighting our cause. Still no information on future of Teddington ground. Still no plans for medic sport there next year. Proving extremely difficult for people to get information from Imperial.

My own memories on these pitches go back years and seeing this momentum grow gives me hope that we can stop the closure. We are nearing a hundred signatures so please send this link to anyone who values the history of our medical school tradition.

I Am currently running a local football team, which has 3 teams playing in the leather head and district league. We are currently looking for a new home ground for next season. Will the sports field be available for hire until a decision is made?
Teddington is being ruined by greedy developers and there are so many young families moving into the area. It is so important that everyone takes plenty of exercise and team sports and very essential for children to learn so many different life skills.
Is there any other way of putting pressure on the Imperial College executive team?
MY SON IS AT IC AND HE LOVES THE SPORTS HERE. ABSOLUTELY SHAMEFUL BEHAVIOR FROM THE COLLEGE MANAGEMENT.
This is ridiculous. Used these pitches for years and they are a vital part of the history of the school. Stop treating students like numbers.
Disgraceful lack of consultation
I personally think that the removal of sports pitches for use by the medical school is inherently wrong. The university has recently, quite rightly so, become concerned about student satisfaction and this move shows a clear disregard for the satisfaction of its students. The fact that a move was even considered where no consultation process could be achieved shows how out of touch sport Imperial are with the importance medical students place on Teddington sports ground. This apparently underhand move to dismantle the medical school exacerbates an us-and-them culture which is not healthy moving forward. A full discussion of this process should be undertaken with people with power to make decisions on both sides as this step-by-step removal of the medical school's identity is of great concern to the many that care about it.

Teddington was gifted to St Mary's by Lord Beaverbrook in the 1930s, for medical student sport, not for profiteering by a private company, absolutely outrageous.
