I never realized a school that helped so many has a negative stigma. Maybe the principal has issues.

A name change won’t change the perception of Sunset HS, educating those people and the community will, and isn’t that the business we are in?

If the principal is so unhappy with the name and the poor image he thinks it portrays, perhaps he should look for another job.

Sunset saved our family! It wouldn't be the same without its name. Our family is proud to say we were part of this school!

Because of this place I went to college and had a successful athletic career. I now have a successful job and I am able to still live in this great town. I can tell you I would not have been able to achieve this without the support this school gave me. I am a proud to tell anyone I graduated from Sunset class of 2001

Sunset was the best school ever. The teacher's and counselor's were more understanding than at SDA and LCC. I wasn't just a number.

I was an educator for forty two years, twenty one as principal of Sunset. Definitely the best thing I ever did. It was very exciting to see a student totally change their attitude toward school and realize they could be successful as a student. If you were willing to work you could make it happen.
I recognize many of the names of the people that have signed the petition , way to go all of you that support keeping the name of "Sunset "

Sunset High School should be proud of it’s name. I am so grateful to have done a homeschooling program there in 1986, which was excellent and helped me tremendously.

I will agree to a name change if the principle agrees to change HIS name. It is irritating when people come into our community and then tell us how things need to be changed. I am born and raised in Encinitas. Nothing needs to be changed, especially the name of our beloved Sunset.
Sunset gave me a second chance, my only chance really (class of 86); one that propelled me achieve higher education--BA from University California, San Diego and MBA from University of Southern California. Ms. Beck was the best English teacher ever, period; I have had some great ones too. Teachers: Finch, Paulfry, Coach Stuck, Lucy and the great Roy Risner were truly gifted and inspired beyond articulation. Collectively, they pushed/inspired me to develop into a student, on my terms, so that I would go on to conquer amazing goals.
