As a former student at Sunset I’d hate to see a name change. The negative stereotype was more associated with it being a continuation school, not the name. I wouldn’t be where I am today without my time at Sunset.

I attended Sunset High School. I don't want the name change because of the great teachers that have made the school a great place to learn like Mr. Finch who was also my Mothers teacher as well.

I graduated from San Dieguito H.S. in 1965. I understand San Dieguito went through struggles in the '90's and only because of an active group of supporters was not closed. I still hear alumni from the '60's to 20 years later expressing a dislike of the word "Academy" in the name. Why couldn't the changes have been made and kept the name San Dieguito High School. We can't change what happened, but keep the name Sunset High School.

I never went to Sunset High School, but have many friends who are Alumni. To the alumni, there are no negative connotations. There is history, why change it? Changing the name for the reason stated only appeals to the administration and people without connections to the San Diequito Alumni. There is a lot in a name, so please keep as Sunset High School.

My son Ezra attended Sunset during some of his High School Years. He took an extra year but graduated from San Dieguito High School In 78. He never would have made it without Sunset. Thank God for Doc in his infinite wisdom, who got to know his students & worked with them to achieve their goals. Wonderful school. Please don’t change the name. We Love it the way it is! ♥️

Until I started attending Sunset, I never believed that I would graduate. I took an extra year, but was able to finish high school. I never would have been able to finish without the teachers.

As a member of the Encinitas community for 30 years, and as a former student and employee of Sunset High School I am profoundly opposed to the potential name change. I find it extremely condescending and insulting to infer that Sunset is so poorly regarded that it needs to be “rebranded”. I have had ZERO issues with a job within the last 20 years since I graduated, or into a University with my Sunset diploma.

Sunset high school and doc helped my so much to finish high school after traditional high school being so challenging for me for a variety of reasons . I graduated on time and immediately started college . Received a bachelors degree and have my own accounting business . Don’t take Sunset High School away please . Sunset is part of the reason for my success .
