Both of my daughters went to Sunset. It was so amazing to watch them actually enjoy education. One is now a biologist and the other is working on a Ph.D. at Stanford in the field of education. At the time they were there, DOC and Terry Henlin were awesome. They seemed so proud of the school. And they worked wonders with my daughters. I asked them both if they cared about a name change. They both said, "Please leave the name alone. Our diplomas say Sunset High School. Without that school, who knows where we would be"? So, as a parent, in the district, I am asking you, for me, my husband, and my daughters, leave the name alone. Thank you.

Keep this school's heritage alive! The program and staff at this school allowed me to flourish when I failed in traditional institutions. I know this to be true for many if the students who have attended over the years.

Sunset has done immeasurable good in this community. Please don’t erase it’s years of service by deleting its name. It doesn’t deserve to be sterilized and rebranded. It’s a cherished landmark institution. Sunset is a beautiful name and - everybit as aptly named as Ocean Knoll. Please give this a hard rethink. I beg you on behalf of so many of its formidable success stories. (Former students)

I am one lucky students to have graduated from Sunset. It is much better to honor the students who have helped the school make its mark on the community by keeping the name the same. Rebuild the school. Give it a fresh look and updated technology...KEEP THE NAME

Sunset was and is the best school! It saved lives, made students believe that they could do anything they wanted to do in life, against all odds. The staff supported, encouraged and praised every student on their path to success! There were no outcasts, no bullying, which cannot be stated by the majority of schools in this country. Sunset is a school dedicated to its students, and as one of those successful alumni let it continue with it’s proud name!

I needs to stay. Some kids need a different approach, and it's been working so don't close it down, just for the reality..or whatever the deal is..so many of my friends went there. They are thriving people of the community there in Encinitas.

I attended Sunset High School for a short period of time and appreciate the help from the teachers. Fond memories remain. I would not like to see a name change.
