My son and my brother and some of my friends graduated from Sunset HS. They are all doing great in their careers and/or college lives. Sunset is a great environment with amazing teachers. Let's keep the name Sunset going!

Sunset is loved by so many and the name to me represents all of us who at times needed the extra love that this school provided. Please save the name!

As a sunset graduate I would hate to see the schools name changed. My grandmother went to this school and her class helped name it. This school holds such a dear place in my heart.

I am a proud alumnus of Sunset High School. I credit the time I spent at that high school as life changing, for the better. It made me accountable for my actions then and in the future, as it taught me personal responsibility. I went on to college and then a successful businessman and member of the Encinitas community, even becoming President of the Encinitas Rotary. I believe Sunset is of invaluable benefit to high school students who need a second chance at school and, sometimes, at life.
PLEASE don't change the babe of the school. Sunset forever. Class of 1984.

This school saved my life. I came To this school a hopeless heroin addict, and because of SUNSET & the faculty, i graduated from an Ivy League University for both undergraduate and graduate school. I’m proud to say I attended Sunset, and I always will be.

I failed fourth grade and the first semester of 9th grade and believed I was incapable of learning or achieving anything of any significance with my life until I went to Sunset. This is a school that believes every student can learn especially the misunderstood ones. I now run a million dollar business and serve on two boards. Every bit of success I've ever experienced is a direct result of the education and encouragement I received at Sunset. When I attended Sunset just attending a continuation school has a negative stigma attached and changing the name of the school would not change the stigma. My own parents thought I was going to a school for losers but they had no idea that this was the first time an educator believed in me which caused me to believe in myself and it changed my life. We should be proud of the legacy and the accomplishments of this incredible school. The focus should be on rebranding the minds of people to appreciate the different ways with which we learn. There is no one-size-fits-all, but I found my perfect fit at Sunset.

As a graduate of Sunset High School class of 1991 I am saddened to think of the schools name being changed. I have gone on to have a very successful career in education making significant impacts on students lives whose path is not considered the norm. I attribute much of my success to my relationships with teachers and staff at SHS and the life changing experiences I had during my time there. The foundation I stand on today, nearly thirty years later, began at Sunset High School. It brings me great sadness to think the institution that led me to a lifetime of making a difference name is not worthy still of the legacy and history it holds.

There should be significant out reach to the SDUHSD community that Sunset serves (and has served) to get feedback about the idea of changing this school’s name. I would hope the same sort of out reach that would be done if someone suggested changing the name of Torrey Pines HS or Earl Warren MS.
There is an incredible three-decade legacy of positive transformations and lives saved and changed because of the honesty, hard work and courage of Sunset students and the skill and heart of the Sunset staff that needs to be considered and honored before making a significant move like a name change.
