Sunset high school is the only school I succeeded in. Please don’t take that away from the generations to come. I did not get sent to sunset, I transferred there myself and graduated half a year early. I had never ever gotten an A in school because I went to sunset.

Negative stigma? Pleasssse ... you’re in Encinitas. Thinking it’s a negative place shows your privilege and unwillingness to give credit to the hard working staff and youth who’ve walked those halls. Sunset has produced amazing graduates and amazing programs. Petition to remove the principal! Keep the Sunset name.

2015 Sunset Graduate. I wouldn't be where I am today or enrolled in college if it wasn't for my experience here. The focus should be on restoring elective credit for students participating in group instead of a name change!
Participating in group not only gives students a safe place to vent about issues in their life, but also helps students to increase their emotional intelligence and strengthen their interpersonal communication skills. Restoring elective credit for participating in group is a great incentive for students to participate in group.
That's something that would better the school. This idea to change the name is a waste of time.

I am opposed to a name change. My niece and nephew are proud graduates of Sunset High School. Sunset HS has a stellar reputation and speaking from experience is very successful in "transforming lives for the better."

This school saved my life, I personally know more who say the same thing. Wjy waist money akd recourses when the $ could be used to beautify the school instesd. As far as stigma goes, it's only in the actual district and when I mention to customers at my work that I went there; the only responses I get are good. Many many many pf us have a special place in our hearts for the school snd its name. Please keep Sunset Sunset!

Leave the name the same! As a current community member, retired educator and 91 years young, the name of the school they attended gives the students a sense of pride for the accomplishments they earned while attending Sunset High School. Don’t take that away from them.

Keep the name! Lifelong miracles and transformation of students and staff’s lives are living proof of the mission of Sunset High School: opportunity for positive change. My students at Sunset gave me the invaluable gift of “grace through 2nd and 3rd chances to “Get it”. I am thankful and honored to have gained this insight as a classroom teacher. Keep the name!

I’m an Alumni who went on to study at UCSF find success and I have never been ashamed to be a SUNSET Alum. Alternative schools are needed and Sunset is a beautiful name.
