There is no need to change it, keep the name. It's a part of Encinitas and it would be nice to preserve something that has done so much for so many students.

I went to San Dieguito High School not Sunset but I have many friends that did and are very successful. Changing the name is ridiculous for the reasons stated, a waste of time and money.

Changing names has NEVER changed perceptions of anything. Sunset is Sunset. Those who look on it fondly will be hurt by a name change. Those who look upon the school negatively will do so regardless of what name is hung on it. The school was and I hope continues to be a savior for many students. Stop trying to fix things that aren't broken and work on things that are.

While I did not attend Sunset, the name of the school perfectly describes the uniqueness of the region. It is also apparent how strongly the graduates of Sunset feel opposed to the change.

Perhaps calling it Sunset Academy would follow the same path as San Dieguito High School did.
