Our city Council has already ruined downtown Encinitas it no longer looks like a beach town. Why in the heck does the school board have to change the name of Sunset high school it’s sitting right in the right place for that name plus the logo is just beautiful I can’t see any reason to change it. I have two girls that went there got a great great education because of that school and both of them are upset about the name change plus a lot People that still live here and people that are far away are upset about this

Let us all be honest. Renaming Sunset Continuation High School is one man's quest to improve HIS own image and ego. Every high school district has a continuation school.Sunset has been ours for over 40 years. Ayala says Sunset has made changes to better meet students needs and that it is a totally different school. But many of his changes have NOT been for the better. He has diminished or completely done away with support groups, special counceling,and other projects which were so successful during Dr.Risner's watch. Listen to the past and present students,educators, and other people on this petition. They are not "CLINGING" to the past, rather they are honoring and respecting the name Sunset Continuation High School which is so important to so many. If he believes there is a stigma to the name,he has had 12 years to change such a stigma.

PLEASE DO NOT change the name of my beloved former high school. I am a 1984 graduate of Sunset Continuation High School. I was able to thrive in an environment that was flexible, inclusive, welcoming, supportive, and allowed me to graduate at a time when my life was in turmoil. I am 53 years young and I am a successful public school teacher at local elementary school. There is no need to change the name. You have changed the look, now teach with a new attitude. The attitude of knowing every student that goes through Sunset High can have a positive experience, in a nurturing environment, if they want it-just like in any other high school. Do you think USC is going to change their name? Or will they just work really hard to clear their name?

As a former teacher at another San Diego County school district's continuation high school, Sunset High School's name stood out as an example of an excellent school. Among those of us who are experienced and familiar with the "continutation" label, Sunset High School served as a prime example of the importance, value, and quality of services that continuation high schools offer.
If Mr. Ayala is worried about the "misconceptions" or the stigma of the label, what does he think the result would be if the name of the school is changed? How about the following scenario?
PERSON 1: Did you hear they changed the name of Sunset High School?
PERSON 2: Why? What happened?
Every community needs anchors. The La Paloma Theatre is one example. The names of schools are also community anchors. They lend character to the place where people live and work. Changing the name of Sunset High School would create more misconceptions about the school and it would detract from this community's character by replacing an anchor that needs no replacement.

I still don't understand the real reason or need to change the name. Sunset High is part of our history and the name is cool!

The members of the San Dieguito High School District have been elected by the communities to serve and manage our middle and high schools. They will make the final decision as to the name of Sunset high school. At this time,827 people have voiced their belief that the name should NOT be changed. If the board does not see fit to listen to the voters, to whom are they responsible????

The Sunset school has been instrumental in helping students at a loss find their way. The instructors believed in them and most importantly, helped students believe in themselves. Keep the name as a symbol of the students' accomplishments and what the school can continue to accomplish for future students.

Sunsets are beautiful in Encinitas and so is this school. Its alumni comprise some of the most successful people in the community, including my son. Thank you Roy Risner for your twenty one years of service. DO NOT CHANGE THE NAME.
