I am upset that the citizens of Summerland were not given an opportunity to comment on the project through SCA

Somewhere along the line it got approved in spite of being against County Code and Coastal Zoning Ordinance. How did this happen? If it goes through, it will match the LA style freeway going in.

As a 35 year resident this project never had sufficient notifications to the citizens and needs serious modifications

Please help keep our little town a quite and small family town. Bright lite signs need to be turned off by 10: pm this is not a night life party town,

The gas station is visible from my home and bright lights and signage will negatively impact my quality of life and home value.

Here’s hoping the County will recognize an error has been made and correct it.

This is truly heartbreaking for our little community. So many have worked tirelessly and voluntarily to enhance the beauty, safety and commercial viability of our town and beach. It is unfortunate that the residents and other businesses did not have the opportunity to work with the gas station owner to reach a win/win solution. I hope that we will have the chance to revise the approval and agree on a look for the property that is consistent with the community's long range plan and the residents' shared vision for this tiny town.

Summerland will become nothing more than a “truck stop” if this development is allowed! It must be stopped!

I grew up in Santa Barbara and have lived in Summerland multiple times over the past 35 years. I’m currently living here and raising my family. Summerland is special for many reasons and one of the strongest is its unassuming and quiet nature. The aesthetics of Lillie Avenue are important to Summerland residents and it is difficult to understand why the community was not involved in the review and approval of the canopy and sign that will negatively affect Lillie Avenue and overshadow our small and very local businesses. Similarly, the light pollution, increased traffic, and noise that this station will bring are negative impacts that should have been evaluated by the community with an opportunity to comment publicly. I support this petition to maintain the current aesthetics and avoid setting a precedent across unincorporated areas to allow bright lights/signs and elevated canopies that would give Summerland and other Santa Barbara County communities the appearance of Los Angeles over time. Now that these concerns have been raised, I hope the local legislature will support this petition as well.

I moved to Summerland almost ten years ago to get away from places like this station. After being here for a year and my daughter attending Summerland school for Kindergarten, I was very sad to have to move to Sycamore Canyon to take care of my mother in law when she had her stroke. I absolutely L O V E this simple, quiet beach town. We finally got to come back three years ago. I am so thankful to be raising our children here. We love easy strolling through our town, getting burgers or coffee, checking our mail, and visiting Sandpiper to get ice cream treats for our walk home. We love our stress free view from our home. We’re excited to see the beautiful new school being built, which by the way, isn’t going to ruin the aesthetics or scenic views. Our only concern has been the proximity to the freeway and the ease of getting on and off the freeway as this opens opportunity for a quick get away for thefts. This station is going to be a huge light (literally) to attract this type of activity. With the 76 in Carp and the 4 gas stations on Milpas there’s no need for a big, bright, noisy, gas station here, and for sure not one running 24/7! The light is going to light up my bedrooms at night even through our window coverings. There’s a right way to build here and this is NOT it. Who presented this idea and why wasn’t it posed to the community living here to vote if we even wanted it?! We would have voted against this proposal because it doesn’t fit in at all with our quaint, quiet, very small, very beautiful community. This approval needs to be reversed and a new, reasonable, proposal needs to be presented with community input. Kristin

I support this community effort for the reasons expressed. Thank you to the organizers and all those who wish to keep Summerland safe, secure and the understated, picturesque seaside treasure of a town that it is for all residents and visitors to enjoy.
