I fully support Save Summerland's efforts to reverse County Planning and Development's approval of this out of scale gas station remodel. The canopy is 16 ft. high! What was Planning and Development thinking allowing this to be approved in a very small business district, in a primarily residential community? The county's "sweetheart" treatment of this project certinally did not take the interests of residents or nearby property owners (such as myself) into consideration.

This operator isn't taking into consideration how the noise and lights will affect our residents who live nearby, those who view the ocean at night over his station, the way his canopy is out of scale with our darling thriving community, the noise all hours when trucks and others pull off the freeway at 2,3 and 4am and then back up (beep, beep, beep). We know he cant be allowed to put a roof sign, even though he got it approved as a wall sign. We know his permit says he has to dim his lights at 10pm and even though the enforcement staff at the County said they weren't going to enforce the dimming, that our residents are going to insist. Let's Save Summerland!

I moved from Montecito to Summarland to enjoy the quaintness of our little town. We don’t need a truck stop. When the gas station underwent construction I was hopeful something wonderful was going happen there. Instead it appears we are allowing this owner to ruin the small town rural vibe of our town. I hope this works!

How and why was this gas station application and approval process kept a secret from Summerland? How was a canopy ever even considered? Fuel Depot in the hub of the downtown district of Santa Barbara does not have a canopy, and they have no ocean views to protect or homeowners to the east, center and west of it peering at it. The gateway to Summerland now has a monstrous monolith. Sickening. The canopy will shine lights that will pollute our night sky and views of the harbor. Let’s think about the hours of operation before it’s too late! Open 24/7 selling booze from 6am -2pm is what the owners wants to do to Summerland. Other Fuel Depot locations are open 6am-8pm and 6am-10pm. Except, of course, the downtown station near all the bars by State Street open 24/7 selling booze from 6am -2am! We need this canopy removed! Chimney/roof signage removed! Hours from 6am to 8 or 10pm and NO big loud TV monitors blasting commercials at the pumps! Approved plans for the roof sign goes against the County ordinances on roof signage. Approval for the roof signage is on the east side, but the owner has illegally opened the west side of the chimney for another sign! Going for an as-built permit? The colors of the signs are not in keeping with the Summerland Community Plan Signage. Bright, reflective, primary color? Yes..! Let’s Save Summerland!

Such a set up for truckers would literally be the death of Summerland. A quaint, very small beach town situated parallel to the freeway 101 and the Amtrack rail road, cannot sustain one more sound nuisance. It is an aberration: properties would devaluat2, locals would move out and fewer business will close. That is a sure guarantee

The bright lights will effect the ambiance and intrude on residents’ lives. Please keep the charm of Summerland.

Our little beachside community of Summerland already has traffic and noise issues we do NOT have the capacity to accommodate additional problems due to one businesses desire to break the rules the rest of us are required to abide by with signage and lighting. This will be harmful in so many ways and it’s difficult to understand how the county allowed this to get approved.

This petition is necessary due to the fact that the county excluded community input and is violating their own laws.

The county needs to be held accountable for their lack of transparency in regard to this project.
