These 27 brave 6th graders chose to challenge themselves in Summa classes this year. Most of them are in their home school and now for the first time are being challenged by their teachers. They love their school and they want to stay. Please allow them to finish middle school at their school. Do the right thing for these kids!

But we might as well try, because nothing in the world has ever been changed by sitting around. It has been changed by people with a willingness to change it. You just have to have a little hope.

This is two kids who both went through the Summa program at Highland (separate years). Yes, it's sad. Of course it's sad. But think about it from an unbiased standpoint. There probably won't be enough students to warrant the budget, and even if advertising and fundraising are successful, the district will be losing money for at least two or three years before it really starts to make a difference, and they can't afford to wait for that change. Also: Whitford Summa is just plain better. It pains us to say this, but it's true. We at Highland had less homework than the normal ed kids - that is a problem. Summa is supposed to prepare us for advanced classes, but the workload is soooooo much bigger in high school. Whitford has better funding and they've been around for a while - they know what they're doing. It's sad to say, but while we don't think they're right, we need to think about where they're coming from. Hate to say it, but even if every kid who's ever been in Summa signs this, I doubt it will make a difference in their decision.

I don’t go to the Highland Summa, but attending the one at Whitford, I do understand that Summa is a family and should be kept together.

Since you are letting the next years 8th graders finish at their current school, you should also let next years 7th graders finish there too. Not fair to the next years 7th graders

Don't start it next year. Just don't accept any new 6 graders in the program next year. Then let next years 7th & 7th graders finish the Summa program in their local Middle Schools with their neighborhood friends.
