Teesside needs what is left of the steel industry for its communities to survive. Not just the jobs of steel workers but also everyone in local shops, businesses in the area. The North East has never fully recovered from the demise of coal and loss of other industries.

Sir, you have supported Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland jobs and industry with England paying the majority of the bills as there are far more of us, it is now time for you to support English jobs and a vital industry.

The loss of the steel industry will be disastrous for an already deprived area. It will not only affect thousands of steel workers and contractors but many thousands of people whose business supplied goods or services for the industry as well as those who benefited from their spending power. Investing in saving the steel industry would reduce future costs relating welfare, health and social care.
