The industry should be subsidised; what would the cost be in benefit payments, the cost to the destruction of local communities and facilities. If the government can allow £250m to build prisons in Jamaica, and give aid to Syria, and bring in at least 20.000 refugees; surely there is enough money to keep this industry and community functioning.

The amount tax payers will be paying in benefits to help the unemployed people on Teesside will be huge. I'm sure all tax payers would rather by paying to keep the steel works going and people in jobs. Not to mention the impact this will have a already struggling mental health services in the area due to people feeling depressed, stressed and anxious as a result of been made redundant. And an already struggling job centre workforce who are understaffed and overworked - how will they manage with 1700 more people to support when they are few opportunities around? The government need to do more or the consequences of the steel works shutting down will be seen in many years to come.

Unfortunately Cameron and his Franco style Government policies couldn't care less about Teesside. It's up to us all to fight them. Sign the petition!

If we can bail out bankers, surely we need to save what little manufacturing is left in this country - especially since manufacturing contributes far greater tax revenue for the exchequer than the financial sector!

Support the North East..the families...the industry...the history... STOP this from happening. I live in Sydney and proud to see the steel from home be here (harbour bridge). Let that continue, let the bloody hard workers keep their jobs. S.O.S

Our economy Cannot survive on the activities of leeches in the city ie bankers, shopping and a housing market bubble We need to rebalance and save proper industry and proper jobs . It might not be profitable in the short term but you can be damn sure we will need it along with the mines and power stations The human cost if we wave goodbye to it cannot be measured

Action is needed to protect all steel industry in UK. Not want 'bale out' like banks, just legislation to enable them to operate on a level playing field with ither countries.

Redcar is on it's way to being a ghost town as it is. PLEASE help save this. What else do we have? We are proud of our industry but we will have nothing left if this cannot be saved.
