Our government should step in and protect all of our industries. So angry that the workers in Redcar have been let down.

It is an absolute disgrace that in just 5 decades British Steel Teeside has gone from being the 4th largest in the world to mothball following succesive foreign ownership. Sort it out HMG. We should not be importing our steel.

This community needs help. The government bailed out the banks with our money. Now they need to help real people.

The government has to do something to help save this plant and to stop all of these good people losing their jobs.

It's about time the conservative government recognised they serve the whole country not just the south of England. Get saving these people's jobs

The Tories annihilated the North's communities under Margaret Thatcher and now Cameron is allowing history to repeat itself. I'm with Corbyn on this. If David Cameron wants to show himself to be a European, why can't he bail out SSI like other 'poorer' European companies, or is so much of our money being ploughed into Europe that there is nothing left for us at home?

My husband works at SSI. Like most people, we live to our means. We have two children to feed and a mortgage to pay. The press are reporting 1700 redundancies but reality is this is effecting 1700 breadwinners, with partners and their children this is likely to top 10,000. These men and women want to work and provide for their families. I fear for the wellbeing of every single one.
