SAVE St. Jerome School Weymouth!

I've volunteered at this school before and can attest to the good reputations it's known by. It would be an absolute loss to, not only our community but, surrounding communities if St. Jerome's school were to close. Education for our children should be the very last on the budget cut list, particularly that which is funded by the church.

As a supporter of catholic education, this is so disappointing. I understand that not all school are financially secure but this does not seem to be the case. The Archdiocese should be doing everything within their power to keep Catholic schools open. Moves such as this is why our Church is in trouble.

My nephew, Jack Hood, received a wonderful education, is excelling in high school and made wonderful friends at SJS. It's a special place and deserves to stay open,!!!

As a parent who had the opportunity of experiencing a Catholic school education outside the United States, I believed choosing SJS, Weymouth was the best gift we could ever give to our son. But with less than a year of enrollment my family is dealt with this unfortunate decision which is making us lose faith in the parochial school system. With regards to the facts that the school cannot be financially sustainable based on its past or current enrollment shouldn't be the core reason to close the school permanently especially when it not in debt, have enough money to get through the 2020 - 2021 academic year, named in the best 10 Catholic schools in Massachusetts, successful transition to online education and many other positive things going for SJS, it is certainly not the time to shutdown the school in the midst of a pandemic. Additionally, we feel it is absolutely not right to make such a decision without involving parents and teachers about the enrollment or financial concerns for the school by the Archdiocese so they are addressed and/or mitigated effectively before announcing closure of the school. Furthermore, in the email notification of the closure of the school sent by Mr. Carroll, the superintendent of schools, parents are somewhat being encouraged to enroll their children in other parochial schools, which to us there is no guarantee that any of those will remain past the next academic year. In short, if the Archdiocese can take such a drastic action without taking into consideration all the above in terms of a school which is academically successful as compared to poor performing schools that have not been closed then what is the goal for the Archdiocese as far as operating schools - is quantity prioritized over quality? Finally, if there will any time for the Church to rally around families and communities and exemplify the teachings of Christ, it is now. We need to keep our Catholic schools open!!

Everyone in the St. Jerome community knows the COVID19 is nothing more than a cover for the archdiocese's decision to close the school. St. Jerome's has had no problem with enrollment until the new pastor's mid year decision to force resignation of a wonderful principal only to bring in someone in her 20's with no principal or teaching experience as a replacement. Since then the pastor tried to undo the mistake by bringing back the principal (only to serve until June) while appointing a Deacon to lead the effort to undo the chaos the pastor and the Archdiocese created. However, soon after the Deacon Dan Burns' appointment, it became very clear to us the Archdiocese had no intention of rectifying the problem they created but to use the opportunity to close the school thereby keeping the 300k in cash reserves and the prime real estate property in North Weymouth. If this school closing goes through there is no doubt the Archdiocese will soon close the under performing St. Jerome Parsh and sell the property to the highest bidder. The Archdiocese and its decision makers should be ashamed of themselves for using the COVID crisis, an inexperienced Pastor, Part-Time Deacon with almost no ties to the school community and Superintendant Thomas Carroll as a cover in robbing the community of this great institution.

Closing Saint Jerome School is totally nonsense. Is the best school that I ever found in the around area. I will love my two kids to study in that school and be good people like teachers and all who represent the school. My daughter feels sad to know that is not going more in that school.

Be a good example for our children as a Christian.

Absolutely disgusted by the decision of the Archdiocese to close an amazing school. The Archdiocese should be choosing to build community not break it apart.

Catholic schools are so Important to young children today. The teachings they receive on respect and love alone are so vital to our young. Public schools aren't allowed to teach these things two Important things and some children aren't even catholic who attend. My girls went all the way through high school (NDA) and one Catholic college (Emmanuel).

Parochial schools are important for our children! God Bless!
