THIS PETITION HAS CLOSED AT 587 SIGNATURES. Together with 2246 signatures collected on the paper version of the petition, it will be presented to the Chairman of Horsham District Council on Monday 16th February, at 5pm, at Park House.

If you would still like to register your name and comments online here, you are most welcome to do so!

Over 220 new homes have been built in Southwater in the past two years. And now Berkeley Homes has submitted an application for outline planning consent to build up to 634 more, on land to the west of Worthing Road.

If this were to be approved, it would increase the number of households in our parish by around 20%, without infrastructure to support that growth. This amounts to unsustainable development, which would impact seriously on the quality of life enjoyed by our community. It would put yet more pressure on our roads, car parking, schools, doctors surgery, village amenities, and the sewerage system, which is unable to cope now.

Furthermore, this huge development would take a minimum of 6 years to be completed, and possibly as long as 12 years, all the while causing traffic chaos and disruption along the Worthing Road, opposite the two schools, with trucks delivering materials daily and tradesmen's vehicles coming and going constantly. And last, but certainly not least, even more of our green fields and woodlands would be gone forever, and it would threaten the viability of Great House Farm.

This petition has been started by KEEP SOUTHWATER GREEN, a community group formed to protect our village and surrounding areas from overdevelopment. Please sign now to add your voice to this statement:

We are opposed to further large-scale development in Southwater. Berkeley Homes’ planning application ref DC/14/0590 is unacceptable to us. We demand that Horsham District Council respects the wishes of residents by refusing to grant planning permission for this scheme.

Reaching five hundred signatures marks a significant turning point in how our concerns are perceived by local leadership. It is heartening to see so many people acknowledge that our village infrastructure simply cannot handle this scale of growth.

The scale of this response is a clear indication that our community understands the gravity of what is at stake for Southwater. It is both humbling and encouraging to see so many people unite behind the need for thoughtful planning. This collective momentum provides a strong foundation as we move forward.

We are approaching one hundred supporters who recognize the strain our local infrastructure faces from this proposed development. Reaching this initial milestone will provide a meaningful foundation as we prepare to discuss these impacts with the council. Please take a moment to forward this page to those who care about the future of Southwater.

I have lived in Southwater since 1976 & the village is virtually unrecognisable. It is fast becoming a concrete jungle, a far cry from the many green open spaces & woodland the village used to offer. What will Berkely Homes and HDC offer us and our future generations with the addition of 643 homes? Increased crime, increased traffic congestion in and around the village, increased air pollution, impact on local schools, doctors, hospitals etc, lack of green space for children to play, lack of surrounding countryside for ramblers, dog walkers, cyclists, horse-riders & the like to enjoy. I fail to see any benefit this additional development will bring to the village. KEEP SOUTHWATER GREEN.

Southwater has had more than fair share of housing development 1500 new hoses will input green spaces, farmland, wild life, cause further traffic congestion. Will impact further on our GP services already stretched to the limit and will cause decades of further construction disruption to the village.

We have already had over 3 thousand homes built near us and we have no infrastructure to Cope with this amount so building more will be a nightmare. There is already a six. Week or long wait list to see a doctor and if they build more houses this will go up. There is only so much we can take enough is enough.

Keep Southwater a village not an urban sprawl of people who don't know each other and don't really care about community.

There are not enough facilities to support any further developement in the village of Southwater. ie; Water, Sewage disposal, Electricity, Gas, Telephones/Broardband. Medical facilities, Road Access, Scools, Banking, Retail outlets.Etc.

too much development in the area already. trains from horsham and christs hospital are crowded with standing only at rush hour. narrow country lanes through neibouring villages are used as a rat run with more accidents on unmarked dangerous bends as the lanes are used.by drivers not used to driving on country roads. ambulances take too long to arrive in an emergency. please dont keep building in our overcrowded area - keep the fields and countryside, once the fields are gone we cant get them back as they arent making any more.

This development should not be allowed as we have no infrastructure to support so many houses and we should keep the boundary between Southwater and Horsham separate

Southwater is supposed to be a village, if further houses are added to the recently built one's it will become an urban sprawl, which no-one wants. We have taken our share of new houses. Stop now.
