Moving the World Language Magnet program from South Meck High School to E.E. Waddell High School and reassigning students from Sharon/ OP from Myers Park High School to South Meck High School will decrease SES diversity at South Meck High School. This goes against the CMS objective to optimize SES diversity. Furthermore, this proposed plan would not align with another CMS objective: it would not optimize school utilization at either Myers Park High School or South Meck High School. The community would be better served with a different magnet program at E.E. Waddell High School. IB/ Cambridge and / or STEM/STEAM programs would be more appealing options.

Leave the language magnet at SM! Leave the current student assignment for MP. Both are currently strong. Don’t take the strengths from 2 schools - to feed an unknown.

Absolutely, for so many reasons, World Languages needs to stay at South Meck! Our kids are headed to that program. Moving the language magnet could also hurt the IB program at MPHS.

Please save the World Languages Program at South Mecklenburg. There is no need to change students home school after a year of Covid.

As an alumni of South Meck, I personally wasn't a part of the language magnet, but was greatly impacted by it. Some of my closest friends I met because they were at South Meck through the language magnet. Without a doubt, this definitely would not have been possible otherwise, and I never would have met these people. Moving the language magnet would have such a detrimental impact on South Mecks culture and student relations, especially after the year the school has been through, it would be very difficult to recover.

South mecklenburg high school is a successful school because of the diversity of students. The language program cannot just be removed from the school and not effect the entire school. The students are not only language students but in AP classes, sports, activities, etc. if you take out this program you take away veins that lead to the heart of the school. Is this decision based on need for a language program or a quick fix to address an overcrowding problem at Myers park? Is this change for the good of all or to appease a few?
