Please stop this unnecessarily punitive taxation on the basis of income. This does nothing to adress the imbalances of the very rich versus the working class but only works to keep those who have amassed fortunes separate from people struggling as small business owners to provide for their futures.

The new tax reforms punish those who take on significant risk in establishing a small business.
As small business owners (Kingston Optometry) we do not enjoy the perks of employment such as vacation time, maternity leave or a pension. Instead we deal with the stresses of large bank loans and keeping our businesses afloat, while trying to establish a means of daily living.
My wife and I are optometrists. We emerged from school with ~a combined $450K debt. Starting a small business, a family and buying a house while paying our student debts has been incredibly difficult (particularly with housing rule changes also). There has been no room to invest in retirement for ourselves, nor RESPs for our children. We are approaching 40yrs of age and wonder how we can ever find relief from the burden of our debt. The practice we are building IS our ONLY investment, but with the proposed changes, it becomes a poor one. The saving grace was knowing that we'd eventually benefit from the current small business tax structure. It would allow us a means of reaping the benefits of our educational investments, numerous financial risks and many fiscal sacrifices.
We've done things the right way - educated ourselves, built a business from scratch within our community, started a family, purchased a home. There was supposed to be a light at the end of the tunnel...but the government seems keen on putting it out. We're doctors for goodness sake - and it's difficult for us. We imagine it must be even harder for others in our community.
The proposed tax reforms will only force small business to continue to tread water, with no fiscal lifeline in sight. Targeting small business targets the foundation and infrastructure of our economy as a whole. Small business members hire, invest and spend their hard earned $ within their communities. We should work to strengthen these pillars of our community, rather than removing the means of which we have to achieve our own finan

These are regressive steps which in the long run will end up hurting the middle class that the government is trying to support. Less money for investment, less incentive for startups in Canada is not what what the middle class needs if they are to achieve their ambitions.

After almost 20 years of post-secondary education and relocating all over North America, I think that our family has endured enough uncertainty. Physicians work extremely hard for their money and get buckle and dined enough by the government. Physicians are not the one cheating the tax system with there "loopholes". They barely have time in the day to see the families and patients let alone conspire to cheat on there taxes.
