small business owner and spouse of incorporated professional, the proposed changes will affect our family significantly. Our MP has refused to attend his small business community with their questions. This is unfair.

The argument that the self-employed should be treated equal to the employee will kill small business and job creation. Why take the risk?

I am against the proposal for tax reform for small business. In particular, physicians were given corporation status in place of a raise in fees. This cannot be taken away.

This Bill does not consider the risk that small business owners take in running their business and the need to accumulate funds in a corporate account to provide for times of economic downturn.

Very concerned about potential negative impact on passive investments within the professional corporation ;in particular, the undermining of careful pension planning over 15 years ... this would be devastating

As a local business, I am writing to express my extreme disappointment with the above-noted consultation paper. It infers that small business owners are exploiting "tax loopholes" and they need to be eliminated as being an unfair tax benefit to business owners. The is somewhat ironic as the specific planning referred to in the Finance paper has been around for almost 50 years, and is already governed by a number of effective rules and regulations designed to avoid abuse.
It is also worth noting that any benefits that exist to being a small business owner are in fact available to all Canadians. All a person needs to do is what others before them have done – strike out on their own to build a better life for their families. But many choose to not take this initiative or risk – following the safer route of employment.
The language of this document clearly implies that being an independent risk taker, who employs Canadians, is not an admirable thing to do. Entrepreneurs do not deserve this negative rhetoric, particularly since they are the essence of job growth and employment in Canada, spending countless hours dedicated to growing their business and in turn the national economy. Reports by Statistics Canada bears out this assertion. Business owners should be rewarded for the risks they take, not criticized and subject to tax penalties.

As a small business owner, we have sacrificed a considerable amount of time, money and energy into growing our company. We pay a considerable amount in corporate tax, income tax, property tax, HST, licensing fees, etc. Going after the hard working Canadian business owners and painting all of us as having "tax havens" or "not paying our fair share" is unjust & hypocritical. If the Liberal government continues to take this path I am committed to diligently working with another party to overturn this government in the next election.
