The Save Our Foreshore announced today 25th January 2015 that the
petition supporting the registration of Pier Field, Skegness as a Community
Asset and that will be handed into ELDC has now reached the 3,000 mark. The
Save Our Foreshore has been active over this weekend informing people both
at the Pier Field itself and outside the Hildred Shopping Centre in Lumley
Road of the ELDC plans to sell off Pier Field to developers and how the
group has requested registration of the Pier Field on ELDC register of
Community Assets. An online petition is also available at
www.ipetitions/petition/save-skegness-forshore.co.uk (Please note:
Correct spelling as per page)
Co-Chairman of the group Russell Sparkes has stated with over 3,000
petitioners (of which over 50% are ELDC residents and voters on the
electoral roll), the support of Skegness Town Council, Skegness Chamber of
Commerce, SECWHA (the hoteliers association) and numerous Skegness
businesses he feels that ELDC really have little choice but to register the
land as a Community Asset in order to avoid the next stage of protest which
would inevitably be a Judicial Review.
Mr Sparkes also stated that whilst the opinion of residents of ELDC was of
course extremely important, visitors to Skegness and the tourism spend
value they bring to the resort should not be overlooked when accessing the
petition signatures, as many signatories stated that one of the main
reasons they visit Skegness is the attractions at the resort, the open
green spaces and the unique architecture of the Foreshore hotels and
businesses. With many also stating, if it’s the Pier Field being sold
today will it be the green bowling areas next.

IT BELONGS TO THE PEOPLE OF SKEGNESS,,NOT THE, ELDC to sell off to make money to cover for financial mistakes they have made in the past and put themselves into debt,, maybe the 11% pay rise they awarded themselves should be used instead to cover thier foulups,,,

totally lunacy for this to go ahead. Leave well alone.
Most councils display as much sense as a mad dog but how can one that is supposedly looking after the interests of its residents allow one of the foreshore attractions to be blighted and undermine residents' livings by giving a large corporation the opportunity to attack their market?

If this was land left to the people of Skegness. This sale should be classed as theft. Why do the council not Support the hotels already there go goodness sake. Instead of putting them out of business, blocking their sea view. Will it restrict access for the public to the beach too I wonder. The councillor's allowing this to happen should be ashamed of themselves. There must be plenty of existing buildings which could be converted into a premier inn instead. There is a plethora of businesses up for sale in Skegness after all.

We purchased.SURO, NUmber 17 North Parade In 1998 and was assured there could ever ever be any Buildings on the Opposite side due to the Earl of Scarborough donating that land to the Community of Skegness for them to enjoy !!! It will definitely block the sunlight as the left of North Parade always goes into the shade around 3 ish and the right stays in the Sunlight until the sun goes down !! That's got to be a good reason to block any High rise Buildings on the Pier side ??
