Save the Silver Spring plaza fountain. Ensure Ellsworth Drive is not next step to gentrifying Downtown Silver Spring.

This fountain is a landmark or Silver Spring. It is history. In an increasingly disconnected world communities need gathering places. The youth need this. Families need this. We all need this plaza to remain untouched by greed. Look at what they did to Caroline Freeland Park just down the road in Bethesda. The park built in ‘80 to buffer residents from booming business district. Then a year ago they claim to increase community business relations they are renovating it. Additional reasons cited were to reduce teenagers rowdy activity and smoking and homeless use of park facilitie, like a bench. The entire DMV is under attack by corporate greed and gentrification. They are taking away our culture and places to enjoy to build bland luxury dwellings in a housing crisis and soulless public spaces that are hostile to the homeless and promote consumerism: eating out and shopping. But with all the mom and pops put out of business with the rent hikes and buyouts shopping and eating “local” aka nearby doesn’t keep the money in the community anymore. The owners of the business entities replacing mom and pop shops that are the fabric of the community live out of the area, even out of the country. We need to stand together in solidarity and fight for our communities against corporate greed and corruption. Stay informed and stay strong everyone!

Removing the splash pad is a step backward. The kids need this. There are no other options for cooling off in the summer downtown

Please save this charming fountain for the children. For many years, this fountain has provided countless hours of joy, happiness, and fun for the children of Silver Spring--please do not take it away.

I like the plaza as it is. I always enjoy going there.

I was raised in Silver Spring when we moved there in ~1950 bc of its a hool, & left in '78 for San Diego CA. I've returned for Montgomery Blair school reunions & would love to see Silver Spring keep more of its history, it's a colorful & meaningful place.

Once the pandemic is under control-a safe open place for kids to play is vital to this area.

It is so important to keep the fountain, the focal point of our community.

Why make it inaccessible for lower and mid class people to prosper. I like the diversity and culture the way it is that's why I chose to live in Montgomery County specifically Silver Spring! Gentrification has already taken over DC leave Silver Spring Alone!

Keep the fountain! Don't make silver spring into Bethesda!

I LOVE this fountain. I come to the downtown area often and sitting beside it and/or having my daughter play in it with other children is a highlight.

As a resident of SilverSpring, I have always enjoyed Downtown Silver Spring, PARTICULARLY around the fountain. I often tell non-residents how the energy and people remind me of the streets of Italy. Covering anything in synthetic grass will give it a cheap, low rent look instead of the elegance that area posesses

Please don’t tear the fountain down. I know that money is the name of the game but there are more important things and this fountain brings a lot of joy to a lot of kids and families. Think about a park or place that gave you joy as a kid. Don’t take that away from our community please.
