Bearing in mind that trains pass by here very slowly it should be a really pretty station to welcome visitors to Cornwall, maybe some volunteers from the town could look after this station with flower baskets and general spruce up. Also, lock it so the yobs can't use it as a hang out.

It has been an eye sore for as long as i can remember and I'm 31 this year think of how many people that have gone passed this building over the last 30 years. does it make u want to get off the train and look around the town if that was the first thing u see arriving and leaving cornwall. I know I wouldn't

This is the first building that passengers into Cornwall pass, so it should be restored to its former smartness, reflecting its connection with the extension of the GWR into Cornwall.

Shame the Council didn't do anything with it when they owned it for ten years and let it go to ruin. They're eager to moan about it after they sold it on for a nice profit. Shush, Saltash Town Council .... Don't let on it was on your watch that it started to fall apart. Thank goodness the new owner plans to make it magnificent again.

Jon Starkie has hit the nail on the head. I'm writing this after coming back from a fabulous Saltash Regatta and we should be celebrating the potential of Saltash, not disposing of its assets!

I have lived in Saltash on and off for over 20 years, and most recently near the town centre and the rail station for the last 10 years. In that time I have watched what was already a lovely community burgeon into a thriving one. This is nicely counterbalanced by what I think of as Saltash's 'secret history' - all the nooks and crannies of heritage that are to be found around the town. What a shame it would be to lose one of the most prominent pieces of that heritage through a mixture of inaction and narrow commercial interest (commercial interest that bears no relation to the original purpose of the building. Now that we have the celtic cross signposting the road gateway to Cornwall, wouldn't it be in total keeping to have a fully renovated Victorian station building gracing the rail gateway?
