There has been no maintenance of the sidewalk in the 40 years I have lived here. Who knows when the last time was that they were laid. This is a pretty good endorsement for brick for brick over concrete.

homeowners are expected to abide by certain historic rules, likewise the city;
that means brick only and promptly maintained
its awesome to walk barefoot on smooth bricks, especially after a Summer rainfall

In all city Historic Districts and where appropriate in downtown Salem, the city should should use brick for sidewalks. Cost effective in the long term, better for the environment, and now that Salem HS has their CTE program in full swing, could be a great pipeline for masons/property management track scholars to gain real work experience and a good job maintaining our city sidewalks, not to mention other brick projects across Salem.

I'm signing this petition, but with extra emphasis on maintaining the brick sidewalks throughout Salem, not just the McIntire District. My sister was badly injured last year as a result of tripping on loose bricks near the Common.

It is in the City’s best interest to protect and preserve the city’s historic character. With the 400th anniversary of Salem’s founding rapidly approaching, now would be a good time to make significant improvements in the City’s infrastructure starting with the brick paver sidewalks.

As a former resident of the neighborhood, the state of the bricks in many areas sorely need attention. They need to be properly restored to historic reasons and safety conditions.

One time cost. Brick sidewalks, once installed are easy to uninstall for maintenance purposes, and then reinstalled with no additional material cost. Properly maintained brick sidewalks will last forever.

Hopefully, the city will see the unkempt condition of brick sidewalks as important as the need for safe bike lanes etc.!!!!

I’d love to get my Oakland St sidewalk redone with whatever the city has lying around after the many diggers I have watched people take right outside my window but I also don't feel like dying while crossing North St.
