We lived in the area for 17 years with 10 acres which is now Singing Pines and worked with Dr. Reynolds wife years ago to limit development of the Glenrose area to 1 and 1/2 acres. The sports complex is the worst thing that could happen!!
My wife Barbara (91) and I (94) are
horrified to think this could happen.

This goes SO FAR BEYOND what the proposed sports complex would do to decimate the beauty and quality of life for those living in the Glenrose area. It would seriously impact thousands of people all over the upper southside of Spokane and Spokane County who use Glenrose Road to get to the Valley and all points east.
I have lived on or in close proximity to this area for many years so am very familiar with the infrastructure. I cannot, in my wildest imagination, see how this area can withstand the traffic and obstruction this complex would cause for those of us who count on the Glenrose route as a way to get off the South Hill now!
Travel has already been horribly impeded by the huge growth of retail stores and thousands of new houses and apartments constructed along South Regal and close to or on the Glenrose route over the last five to seven years, all with little to no infrastructure improvements! The only one I have noticed is a roundabout at the crest of Carnahan Hill. While nice, it’s a spit in the wind compared to the overall need. It was obviously done with the complex in mind, totally unnecessary at this point, and it certainly hasn’t done anything to address the most pressing travel needs of residents on the south side of town now.
Regal has been the primary exit from the east side of South Hill forever. The growth along Regal has caused, what I would guess, the majority traveling east, to move onto Glenrose to avoid Regal, especially during peak travel hours. In addition to the recent construction noted above, on or adjacent to Regal are two grade schools, a high school and a middle school that also uses Regal as its major arterial (AND another junior high is already in the works). Navigating Regal is RIDICULOUS at start and end of school days.
For those not familiar with the South Hill, we have NO four lane roads. And, the miles of road traversing Glenrose is the absolute LEAST suitable for any significant public complex. It’s A LITTLE TWO L

The sports complex does not fit the county code description for a community-oriented center. In addition, streets are barely adequate for the current traffic load---100s more vehicles every day of practices and games is more than the few roads can accommodate safely.

I grew up in Lincoln Heights and had many adventures as a child visiting the woodsy areas down "Monkey Tail Hill" into the Glenrose area. Then, in my teens I would ride my bike through Glenrose, around Moran Prairie and back home. I am amazed every time I drive through there how it still has the same feeling that it did over 50 years ago. What a tragedy to lose that and become a congested, noisy area like so much of the South Hill business district has become. I dread seeing one more beautiful area yield to high density residences and business interests.

This area’s proximity to Dishman Hills makes it part of an important wildlife habitat. There are other areas more suited to a sports complex that can be created without destroying wildlife habitat.

It is simply wrong for the proud community of Glenrose to be zoned out of preserving the rural beauty that they have worked so hard to maintain.
There are plenty of middle schools, parks, and high school who have playing fields that are totally under utilized.
Please do not destroy the rural Glenrose area.

Why would Spokane area need yet another giant sports complex when we have adequate space for parking and plans to build or upgrade sports complexes elsewhere—I.e. in Spokane Valley close to new railroad overpass and possible renovation of Joe Albi stadium. Existing roads not adequate for resulting traffic either—large apartment complexes not yet completed close to Glenrose will overwhelm existing roads soon and not allow for even more high traffic for a sports complex.

I too believe in and support the preservation of Rural Glenrose and proudly add my name to this petition for the county to uphold the the restrictions on development of this area.

Just the idea of using artificial turf is very irresponsible. Not only does artificial turf leach heavy metals into the water supply from the ground up Tires used as fill. It has been shown that children have developed cancers from repeated exposure. The truth can also become too hot To use during the summer.

After witnessing what Spokane county allowed to happen on south Park Rd. I have no faith in this county. We have major traffic problems and no wild life now and lost our rural character. Very sad to see this happen all in the name of greed.

Why don’t they put it on Regal near the soccer center no one lives nearby so lights won’t bother anyone
