Save Rural Gig Harbor: No Luxury Resorts on Olson Drive

I live not far from there and this would be devastating to this community. The reason we live where we do is because this area still has land and trees and space. This area is quiet and not full of car and houses spaced 5 feet apart. Not to mention the fact that Harbor Heights elementary is already over populated and not due to receive any improvement funds any time soon. This plan is a nightmare.

As a former resident of Gig Harbor and with family and friends still living in the area, I wanted to provide a few comments opposing the proposed development. On principle, I am not opposed to the development of additional housing. It is clear that there is a shortage of affordable housing as a whole available in Gig Harbor and the broader Pierce County region. Additional housing and development is needed to serve the needs of the community. That said, this planned project does not serve this purpose of Gig Harbor and Pierce County’s detailed community plans. Furthermore, the parcel is outside the targeted region for urban growth. The planning work of the city and county is instrumental in guiding projects and for good reason—they are familiar with the limitations of existing infrastructure and resources critical to serving the needs of not only the existing population but also the incoming population. The proposed project fails to serve the needs of the existing and broader community, the city or the county while putting residents and first responders at risk. As a member of a family who had lived in Gig Harbor for 40 years, I am concerned that this project does not sound like it fits within the zoning of its intended location.

Gig Harbor is already stressed to max compacity with housing. Adding a huge Hugh density complex without infrastructure to support it is a nightmare waiting to happen. Do not allow the rezoning of this property!

This should also be a safety concern for the children at the nearby schools with all the traffic.

I live in the area and do not support large scale development like this. The roadways in the area are already past capacity, we can't add more to that.

I have parents that will be directly impacted as will their barn if rural coding moves into commercial. I too agree that there is a need for senior housing but this type of motion takes a serious change management plan to include the area you’d be impacting which also requires that community to see the benefits the increase in traffic population and construction will actually bring with it.

Big safety issues for our rural community.

Developers have ruined sooooo much of ths community..We moved here for the rural community and the wildlife that roams around as part of the community..I loathe and despise Gig Harbor NOTH ALREADY...TREES BEING CUT DOWN FOR MORE TACKY BUILDING AND TRAFFIC....TAKE A PEARL ANBD TURN I TINTO A PIECE OF GRAVEL. ONCE UPON A TIME THIS COMMUNITY WAS CALLED THE "SAUSALITO OF THE NORTHWEST"...Now itr's just tacky, tacky, tacky..

I can argue both sides of this issue. I don't own the land and rights therein of said development but I pray that those who do would reconsider to protect some of the last vestiges of Gig Harbor's rural living.

This sounds highly deceptive with the group home description. This is hardly “consistent with the rural lifestyle and within the carrying capacity of the natural environment.” My daughter attended school here and children and families enjoy this quiet, safe rural area. This would no longer make this a “rural” setting.

We live in rural Gig Harbor for the beauty and nature. Take a trip to Roche Harbor if you want to see how beauty can be destroyed for profit. Gig Harbors draw is that of a quaint Fishing Village surrounded by pockets of small neighborhoods blended into natural settings. There has already been way too much high density development allowed. If this keeps going at the rate it is the Harbor will become like the East Side of Seattle or Puyallup's South Hill area!

It’s wholly inappropriate for the location.

Keep rural Gig Harbor beautiful and natural.......

High density housing is not why I live here. We need to protect the environment and not cut it all down and make it look like Tacoma.

This was my family’s property for generations. Olson and Peterson Families. It is not a good site for that type of development.

The charm and allure of this area generates the draw upon which local businesses rely. This development is not in the best interests of any local establishment except the developer themselves. This tax revenue will not counterbalance the cost.

Enough.

The character of the area would be irreparably damaged by the proposed project. Both the rural area as well as maintained by the current residents as well as substantial animal habitat would, forever, be lost. In the mist common language, this is simply a bad idea and counter to all we value in Gig Harbor

No luxury apartments. Stop the overcrowding!
