Ripper street is one of the few descent dramas left on the non-subscription channels and has been very popular as a result. The lower ratings can only be explained by the fact that Ripper Street was shown on a Monday rather than the prime Sunday spot and pitted against z list celebrities eating unappetising creatures.

Please put it n a Sunday night! It's the best show I have seen in ages to come out of the UK and I am ashamed that we also produce all that other reality drivel. Please listen to us BBC - we are the people who keep you in existence.

One of the few show i ever turn the TV on for! Such great dialogue and characters. Will really miss it if the BBC won't wise up!

This is a briliant series. Historical drama that really tries to capture the essence of a period - and what an exciting period! Brilliantly acted and written. When the alternatives are Downton Abbey and Mr Selfridge, how can the BBC fail to see what a quality product they have?
