Outdoor dining has been one of the best things to ever happen to Ridgewood. Have you seen how lively and energetic the streets of downtown Ridgewood are in the spring, summer and fall months? Residents have the option to dine Al fresco and make incredible memories with their friends and loved ones in the open air. Removing this experience will drastically damper the charm, community-feel and energy that residents and visitors have come to experience here in Ridgewood over the last few years.
The benefit for residents is only one aspect. Removing outdoor dining will cut a critical amount of revenue to our local businesses and restaurant owners. These are the same people who had to shut their doors, limit capacity, lay off their staff and adapt to weekly changes in laws and regulations during the peak of Covid. Many restaurant owners are still trying to get back on their feet and make up for losses. Outdoor dining allows our own restaurants the ability to thrive and provide incredible service to the residents and visitors of the village of Ridgewood. Unless we are willing to offer them an alternate solution, removing outdoor dining is simply not an option.
Let’s face it. Outdoor dining in Ridgewood was an incredibly successful experiment. There is no data or factual information to suggest taking it away.
Residents are happy. Restaurants are thriving. The village is better for it.
Oh and one other thing. Every time I drive by the parking garage, I see the digital led board showing more than 100 spots available, even on peak times like weekends. Losing 18 parking spaces is not a valid concern. There is ample parking in the village of Ridgewood.

You need to continue outdoor dining, everyone in the town and outside the town enjoyed it so much, also great for all the restaurants that suffered economically during Covid. This town arranges for so many outdoor family activities, so it just seems ridiculous to discontinue al fresco dining.

I have lived in Ridgewood for many years and have a business in town. I feel that we should keep the outdoor dining corrals. We can certainly require restaurant owners to maintain the are to Mayor Knudsen’s standards. I believe they add an energy to the town that draws more visitors.

Restaurants suffered enough through this pandemic. Why not help your community thrive as opposed to taking away any chance they have of getting back at least part of what they lost?
