Can't you work out a land swap with government buy out of the mining site. Then let the private company develope within existing zoned areas away from redrock.

Red Rock is my favorite part of Southern Nevada. It has been my refuge and my release when I am stressed. I am a native Nevadan and a native Las Vegan. I have memories tied to visits to Red Rock. I learned to drive in Blue Diamond and by driving the scenic loop. I bike underneath the watchful mountains. I love this place. There are unintended consequences to the seeming boon to housing development. People who come here come here-- visitors from far and wide, not just locals-- come because it is nature they can interact with unperturbed by the hectic pace of the city OR the suburbs! Keep that in mind. Any economic boon would be short term but would have long-term effect. People may choose to spend their money in Utah instead.

This would be a travesty, that a few would profit by raping a natural wonder is shameful. Our country could do with a lot less of those situations, we should set an example here in Las Vegas. There is an abundance of empty land to develop in this valley in addition to many existent neighborhoods that could use a facelift. Why further scar the beauty we have here? This is a no brainer really. Do the right thing for everyone and sleep easy at night with a clean conscience. It is a priceless commodity to hold, just like Red Rocks.
Best regards,

Do not build. Great place for hikes and get away from neighborhoods. Peace and quiet. Leave it alone
