David Ross presents insightful material that supports a historical and contemporary view of the martial arts. His writings challenge a confounded and often misguided approach to what really is traditional martial arts and is a scholarly work in its own right.

The articles are very informative about the history of Chinese martial arts. They do challenge conceived ideas and make you question what you think you know. Sources are quoted to back up claims.

As a 40+ years in the martial arts, I've been exposed to writings and teachings from various sources. Some simply regurgitated what they had been told or read somewhere.. In my opinion, Mr. David Ross, not only writes from his vast experience as a trainer of successful fighters, but also from an experiential position of knowing what works or doesn't in the ring and outside of it... Anyone who is threaten by his writings is either genuinely ignorant in the pugilistic arts, or is a charlatan trying to pull the wool over his student's eyes.

Whilst I don't personally know David Ross, as a practitioner and teacher of Tibetan and Chinese martial arts I find his articles to be thought provoking and scholarly, traits rare in the territoral and sonewhat dogmatic arena of traditional martial arts.

I have read many blogs on CHinese Martial Arts over the years, and can say that David does an excellent, and well researched job of talking about the history of the subject matter, and how that intersects with modern life. If there are people complaining about it, then they are likely the charlatans that he is exposing...

This is consistently some of the best writing on the Chinese Martial Arts and on martial arts in general. The author, David Ross, is an accomplished teacher with a distinguished pedigree. His articles are always backed by research. I have been involved in Chinese martial arts since 1978 - as a student and a teacher. I consistently recommend this blog to my students to read and I am consistently impressed with the quality of the content Sifu Ross produces. It is ridiculous to think his writing is being threatened because others do not hold the same opinion.

David Ross's comments and material ARE well researched and I look forward to reading his material whenever it is available, he is well studied in the subjects he talks about, and prctices what he preaches. I have practiced martial arts my entire life and the views, researched history and real life experience he posts are worthy of the respect of serious martial arts practitioners, everyone is entitled to an opinion but anyone who is idiotic enough to actually attack his position on martial arts practice and history is living in a fantasy world, leave him alone, get off your armchair and actually try practicing something themselves!!

As a professional instructor and life time practitioner, I have found David Ross's blogs well researched, detailed, source available and coherent with a common theme of research into the core basis of martial arts history, training and teaching, specifically but not limited to the Chinese Martial Arts.

As an academic I find Mr Ross's insights invaluable to my research into MA as a cultural practice and how it shapes nationalist narrative.

As a 30+ year martial artist it is refreshing to find a person willing to do the actual research needed to dispel a lot of the standard held beliefs that have polluted Martial arts of all styles for ages. While it may not be popular, or maybe it is even threatening to some people because of how it sometimes shakes the core of what they believe in. It is exactly this type of scholarship that will better martial arts for future generations. Few are doing what Mr. Ross is doing and no one is doing so with more intelligence, thoughtfulness and respect.

One of the best, most considered and well thought out sites on the internet regarding the martial arts and their origins and relationship to the modern world. Do those requesting it be discontinued also have to prove scholarship and provide research to back their claims? Where can I see their credentials? Even a cursory web search will prove Sifu David Ross is qualified and experienced beyond the norm and deserving of a unfettered voice on the webernets.
