Research in pure mathematics is of fundamental importance - we cannot imagine the present without the contributions of Fourier, Gauss, Euler... Tomorrow's technology will depend on our nurture today. Let us not cut out research in pure mathematics for lack of short-term results.

Mathematics organizations should recommend that students following numerate disciplines refrain from applying to such reduced "universities".
