To the Michigan Legislature and Governor Snyder:
I am commenting about HB6074 and related bills.
Please slow down.
We did not get into this situation overnight and we cannot get out of it in the overnight.
I am a retired police officer who dedicated my life to public safety and the communities I served. I was and still am willing to run to the danger instead of running away from it. How much is that worth to you ?
Do you find it ironic that these bills were introduced on the day that this state was burying a young police officer who gave his life in service to his community ?
The police and fire community deserve more respect and support than this. The communities they serve (and served) deserve more from you. Have you considered the chilling effect these bills will have on the future of the profession and public safety ?
Public safety, police in particular are under attack in this state and across the country. We need your support now more than ever, the public needs to see it's elected officials supporting public safety. These bills do not say "we support you", quite to the contrary. What they say is "your service and sacrifice means nothing and what you do and have done is not valued or appreciated".
Why don't the police, both retired and active get the same (well deserved) respect the armed forces Veterans get ? You would never get away with treating Veterans like this. Police provide civil order, enforce laws and keep the peace all across the country. Lets go a few days with no police protection and see what happens - it would not be pretty. It truly is a "thin blue line" and we need your support, now more than ever before.
We all understand there is a problem that needs to be addressed, quite frankly some of it has been made worse by the dramatic reduction in revenue sharing and the inability of local communities to generate needed revenue. I sure hope the people we elected to protect us will do so and do the right thing. We bargained for this benefit and it's a done deal so leave it alone . Vote no on these bills

Please save our pension/health care. I retired from RTPD after 26yrs, 1 month, 12 days of service in 1997. Any cuts would be a financial burden.

Please what are these politicians thinking I urge all of u that sit behind your comfortable chairs daily to get out and do a policeman or firemans job! It's questionable you would even make it!!!! Leave these men and women's pensions alone!!!
