For years, Mandurah's nursing students have benefited from the support of Dr Phil Arena and Dr Stephen Rankin in academic writing, science and numeracy; it is with their help that many of us have received grades that we can be proud of. However, this support is being withdrawn. Without consenting with the students of Murdoch’s Peel Campus, the positions of Phil and Stephen have been seen as no longer viable. This is not acceptable! Our fees pay for an education which provides us with the experience of exceptional educators such as Phil and Stephen. Cost cutting in this way is simply not on. As fee paying students, we are entitled to keep the experience of Phil and Stephen at the Peel Campus. With so many students from a variety of backgrounds who have required and still require the help of these incredible mentors, it is our responsibility to show how vital their resource is. Let your voice be heard by providing your signature and story of success using these mentors on this petition. Let’s save our invaluable resources!

im hearing from so many of you about how much phil and stephen helped you pass your hardest classes. i am gathering these stories to show the administration exactly what we stand to lose if they go through with these cuts.

this is getting way bigger than i ever imagined and it just shows how much phil and stephen mean to us all. thank you for keeping this energy up because now the uni cant ignore us any longer.

Without Phil Arena and Stephen Rankine, student who English is their second language woould be struggling, we need them ,we love them
I hadn't attended school or uni for 25 years. Thanks to Phil and Steven for helping me transition to formal academic writing. We pay full fees Murdoch and you give us very little compared to South St. Money is obviously your priority over what is fair and just.
To consider removing these guys from Peel you must have absolutely no idea of their true worth and value!!! I can gaurentee that the " drop out " rate will INCREASE if they are no longer available to teach and provide the service they do- Shame shame shame to even consider their jobs no longer viable !
How can they say their position is no longer viable? If anything, their position is quite the opposite. Helping students get through uni with the high standard of support they provide. I doubt the unit coordinators/tutorers will have the time to go through academic writing individually with students on a constant basis.
I don't think I would have gotten through my first year without Phil! Half of the time Phil and Steven are completely booked out with appointments so how can they be viewed as unnecessary resources?! Please let us keep our Student Learning Services team!
Phil is very dedicated to students. Wisdom doesn’t come with a text book. Wisdom comes with experience.
I do Plan Printing & Laminating for the Nursing students and in the past a lot of these students has commented highly of Phil Arena's terrific job performance. Through reading essays and providing extra tutorials for anatomy and math– and breaking it down in a way that we can understand - I’m not sure I would’ve made it this far without Phil and Steve. I think first years will struggle without them.
