It is absurd that risk aversion has reached this state that trees have to be cut down because people trip on roots! People should look where thy are going!

The trees enhance our beautiful square. It would be a tragedy to bring down any of them.

The people of Petersfield should decide on what should be done regarding the trees as they are the people who live there.

Petersfield is situated in the South Downs National Park - are they really going to get rid of trees on elf & safety grounds? Don't be silly EHDC

After the devastating 1989 storm my son James helped to plant all the new trees in the square. On returning to Petersfield in 2010 we were thrilled to see that the trees had survived. If the trees need to be taken down due to disease then we must make sure that new ones are planted for the next generation to enjoy.

As a Petersfield woman born-and-bred, I'm horrified to learn that these beautiful trees - as much a part of Petersfield's heritage as the Square itself - will be felled, especially without due consultation with the community. It would be an act of vandalism, and the Council needs to take the many complaints and objections to this decision on board.

EHDC operating as agents for SDNPA have taken it upon themselves to desecrate The Square without ANY justification, apparent referral to SDNPA OR a public consultation process!
Disgusted with EHDC's autocratic conduct :-(

Crazy decision to destroy the beauty of Petersfield Town Square at the heart of the town.

To cut down the trees would be an act of total stupidity and would ruin the heart of the town. Don't do it.

Please don't axe these trees. They are beautiful. There are far less brutal methods of dealing with the roots. Please save them.

We are told that the trees are being removed for public safety - what rubbish. Trees like everything else need to be managed not just removed. We don't want Petersfield to become just like so many sanitised towns without character - without real life!

The trees must stay on the square. They are important to the wellbeing of all who visit Petersfield and a favoured roost of large flocks of pied wagtails ( Motacilla alba )

Keep these trees. Why the sudden rush. Petersfield is being treated with no respect at all

sooner or later petersfield will loose it's character that has been with it for years. Generarations of my family have been brought up here and it has stayed the same humble town. Now we want to get ride of the small things that make it that way.
If this is the councils decision then those involved need to review them self and see if they are doing this for the towns good or for those that drive through petersfield for 20 mins.

Limited consultation, limited rationale. This needs deeper investigation.
