These trees are a natural feature and the epitome of the of the town centre. If the trees are healthy then why spoil the square?

We need more trees, not less. Health & Safety need to be more imaginative and consider them a challenge, not a problem.

These trees are central to the landscape of the town centre - there are no others bar those in car parks. Unless irrevocably diseased, it is a crime to fell them. I can think of a dozen alternative ways to protect the public from raised roots...just ask me!

The world has gone mad! Why would you need to remove tree's for safe-guarding pedestrians! People all over the world walk past and under tree's every second of every day, in the scheme of things this should be considered low risk.

I live on the Square, and the last thing I see as I go to bed, is the tree opposite Cubit and West. I think it would be such a huge loss, and just tragic not to have these beautiful trees adorning the Square.. They are a delight in every season, and hugely add to the Square's beauty, and individuality. Why the need to remove them???

Save our trees! Pavements can be altered and adjusted. Why chop down a perfect healthy tree to only replace with another that'd only smaller and younger!?! Ridiculous!

I visit my family in Petersfield and enjoy the space in the square. Please look at all the possible options as there must be other options to landscape the space without destroying healthy mature trees that break up the harshness of the town landscape.

What a stupid idea to remove these trees. Have the council no sense
at all. They MUST be protected.

Change the surrounding around the tree. Leave the trees alone.
You can't keep taking wildlife habitat away. I always thought you needed planning application for this sort of thing. Or is it a case of one rule for us and another for the council ???

Great that people power got the district council to back down and go to consultation with the town before any action - as they should have down first of all.

A good idea is to put railings round to make people aware of the trees.Perhaps make pedestrian access at the sides with wider openings and close the pedestrian access at the corners. Also people must be responsible for their own actions. At the time of the redevelopment of the Square we were told it would give an attractive focus to the centre of town. This it has done admirably.I am sure many people visit Petersfield because it is an attractive small market town.To cut down these trees would be vandalism.

Please reconsider the felling of the trees in Petersfield Town Square. There must be an alternative solution. To go ahead would alter the rural ambience of the Square.

Only just seen notice in Square about the trees. How stupid to remove the character of the square when there is nothing the matter with the trees. There must be another way round this problem. The trees must stay.

Please reconsider this appalling decision. The trees are beautiful and are part of Petersfield. Is this H and S gone mad?
