Removing the trees from the square is a crime and would ruin that space

Why are trees disappearing all over the county taking away what wildlife we have left

People are willing to pay, on average, 12% more for goods and services in commercial districts with trees Wolf KL (2003). Public responses to the urban forest in inner-city business districts. Journal of Arboriculture 29(3): 117-126. Trees are often an unnoticed part of the urban landscape. Until they’re gone.

Ridiculous idea, surely the replacement saplings will be vulnerable to vandalism for years, if they're that worried, put tiger tape on the offending roots

Trees in the Conservation Area in the national park ought to be safe!

I strongly oppose the removal of these trees.

Why are these being taken down? Poor excuse about it being a trip hazzard as there are so many loose paving slaps around town that need looking at. Deal with them first.

Surely these trees should be protected by a TPO. The EHDC should be concerned with preserving them, not felling them.

The beautiful tree lined avenues of London - even relatively small residential roads with narrow pavements eg Kew, Chelsea etc wouldn't be what they are if their councils had followed the same reasoning as being voiced here. Please think again about cutting down these trees.

Please save these beautiful trees. The square wouldn't be the same without them!

I have read and thought about your reasoning for the removal of these trees. It does however seem a very costly venture. Surely there must be a way of keeping the trees and fencing them in where they are so the uneven paving isn't accessible to the public. These are lovely mature trees which house many different birds and insects all year round, new younger trees would not offer the same to our wildlife. I feel that this is a misguided and costly decision.

To fell these trees would be criminal, I can't imagine there is a person in Petersfield who would think it a good idea. There will be numerous ways to rectify the problem - removing the trees is undoubtedly the worst.

This is short sighted, and will reduce the charm of this special town.
