I don't understand how anybody could even consider taking these down. What is the matter with you! They are a glory. Leave them alone

Save our trees in the square. They look gorgeous. are good for the environment and birds, offer shade in the summer when the outdoor events are held. I totally apose this ridiculous notion, disgusted is an understatement!!!!

We have one that now completely shades our small garden but the council will not trim it due to rules!!!

Trees add beauty, shade, attract wild life, good for the environment , colour, why would you want to get rid of them ?

To lose these beautiful, old, iconic trees and habitat for our wildlife Is another ludicrous example of health and safety gone mad! Instead of culling down 'dangerous' trees (that have probably been here longer than most of us!) our councils should be advocates for protecting our nature heritage and environment for the future.

I thought to myself the other day as I walked through the Square how wonderful it was that the trees in it were beginning to really come into themselves and show a small sign of the magnificent trees that they will become. How wonderful, how beautiful - and you want to destroy them?? We will all trip over something someday that's part of life .... Please don't cut them down xxx

These should not be revived due to health and safety. Don't hide behind that curtain.

Please reconsider. The trees are natural, Petersfield is a country town and they add so much to the square. Why would anyone want Petersfield to become a soul-less, concrete town ? I am certain as a Petersfield pedestrain I, and the rest of us, can continue to manage with any tree related hazard there may be, & I am equally sure EHDC can be relied upon to keep them safe without chopping them down.

Why couldn't circular benches be built around the base of the trees , as the one opposite the library? That would afford protection for the "helpless public" who can't walk without tripping over .........perhaps we should rip up all the cobbles, (trip risk surely), and the curb stones look pretty dangerous, not to mention all the people you could bump into... ban them too, oh and get rid of the traffic while we are thinking about it. The axing of these beautiful trees is nothing less than an act of vandalism on the alter of Health and Safety.

It will spoil the whole aspect of the square to just chop these trees down. Surely we can build a seating arrangement around the trees that will be practical and contain the roots.

Can't they consider removing the cobbles and using a different covering surface?

EHDC should fix uneven pavements which are much more of a risk to pedestrians than trees!

Trees are so important for the environment, so much of the square is paved, the trees give it life.

The trees are a part of the Square's charm. It would look sterile without them. Definitely against this.
This is taking health and safety too far.
