It's a nice square, but made better with trees, flowers and moving clouds - keep at it!

What is this madness? There is an agenda running here and it has nothing to do with 'health and safety'. That's a crock. Who gains by this? The folk making these decisions behind closed doors have NO RIGHT to do so without public consultation. It's a bit like the 200 year old tree at TPS being cut down. We were told it's all H&S, as usual, but in reality, the school got in to bed with Tesco to get money for the flood-lit sport-courts. Nobody believes you any more, you people who make up these ruses to deceive the public. There is nothing wrong with the Square trees. They are not dying, falling over, dropping branches, sprouting roots to trip over (and to the last point: so what if they were?) You are LYING to us as usual, and cannot be trusted with the so-called public good!

I am a regular visitor from Australia and have always loves how your towns and villages have trees and hanging plants it gives the place character and charm. If the trees go it will look like an exercise yard in a prison.

Please do not cut down these trees. The essence of Health & Safety is to allow people to do whatever they have to do as safely as possible; this does not necessitate cutting down established trees. There should be a preservation order on the trees.

Don't chop down the trees, prune them and fence them. They give the square character.

Explore different pavement options rather than cut down trees.

Health and safety is of course important but there must be other options to sort this problem out.

Please don't remove a piece of nature from our square. There are too many trees being cut down all over the world.

Dear Sir, I strongly object to the removal of the trees on Petersfields town square. Please could you hold a proper discussion in the town before this is allowed to go ahead?

The sound of the flocks of birds roosting each evening is beautiful.
Leave the trees, I remember when the 4 were planted;one drunk person climbed up one and it's trunk broke, then there were 3. I think that's how many there are currently.

What are the H&S reasons for removing the trees? Why has there been no consultation? Do not cut down these trees.

The same was proposed for Salisbury on the supposed grounds of safety. A good local protest made the council reconsider and suddenly the trees weren't unsafe any more.
