Keep the "Big City" plans out of small town of Payson

The General Plan was voted on as proposition 41 and the town has an obligation to enforce the General Plan as voted on. The request to rezone to R3 is to far outside the scope of what the General Plan allows that it should be the town that says they cannot request it. The town staff should be administering what the community approved.

Rezoning this property would be a huge mistake. I can't imagine anyone serving on city council agreeing to approve a plan that would result in years of noise and dust and traffic that would change the peaceful character of our quiet community. To accommodate the level of density that this multi-unit project involves will necessitate traffic signals along Tyler Parkway. This is very wrong!!!

We are in CP phase 3. This rezoning will have a profound impact on the entire area. The primary reason we chose our home is for the quiet and beautiful surroundings. The necessary changes to infrastructure to accommodate this much and type of housing would be a permanent game changer. I am firmly against the rezoning issue at hand.

We recently purchased a lot in the Foothills East subdivision. We spent a considerable amount of time looking at various towns within three hours north of Mesa. Our list of “must haves” was considerable yet easily met by the Town of Payson. Once we had decided on Payson, we started our search for what we hope to call home, a parcel of land that offered spectacular views of the rim in an area of town where it was quiet and secluded. The Foothills East meet those requirements. Within two months of purchasing we are now confronted with the possibility of having our “little piece of heaven” turned into a “big city” nightmare. The peace and tranquility of the area we selected will be destroyed by the absurd density being proposed. This is NOT a big city, why would anyone allow such a preposterous number of residences be built. How is the town going to support the number of residents this development is trying to accommodate? The additional traffic on Tyler Parkway will necessitate major enhancements, the destruction of the natural habitation will alter the drainage and potential flooding to neighboring communities. Where will the potential 500+ families work? The comment made at the town hall meeting about providing affordable housing for families that will work in Payson is ludicrous, what 500 jobs are being made available to the new residents of Payson? I’m opposed the destruction of a beautiful town by the request to build a city style community, we are opposed the application for rezoning and request that the Town of Payson deny the application.

High denstity apartments need to be closer to city services, not near communities that provide your highest tax base.

I live within the Chaparral Pines community (phase 3), the development is in close proximity to my home (Tyler gate). This development will destroy our current way of life here is this beautiful community. The development in its current proposal will add 10 percent population to the town, this density will over tax our town services and increase crime and pollution.

We live off Karen Way and I oppose the rezoning. Polly Craig

This area is not zoned for muti-family housing and the zoning should not be changed especially without a vote of the people.

This would be the worse possible thing for our Tyler Parkway neighborhood!

Does the population of Payson demand that many apartments? Are these going to be high rent apartments who will be able to afford them? What about the increased water usage for that many more people. With a drought, you're lucky to meet the water needs of those who live here now. You wil need more police and definitely more fire fighters. A little forward thinking other than how much money do we get from this might help. I think there are other places that would work as well.

Payson is Ill prepared to add this many homes to the community. Police and Fire Departments are already at the breaking point. The school system is stressed. Obtaining a Dr. in Payson is almost impossible with a minimum 6 month wait. Internet and phone service is iffy and near the breaking point. Traffic on the weekends is reminiscent of LA. What’s more the proposal changes the culture of the town and is unacceptable to those of us that moved here to enjoy the small town environment. Heaven knows what Tylor Pkwy will be like with multi hundreds of additional families and cars utilizing the single lane road. Approval of this project by the council is a game changer and not for the good.

People from all parts of the USA move to this hidden little gem called Payson to live in and enjoy the pine forests and the charms of small town life. This rezoning proposal is antithetical to the spirit of Payson and to the Tyler Parkway community in particular. It is motivated by sheer greed. You've got the golden goose here--don't kill it with a rezoning ordinance!
