Music programs are what help shape young individuals and inspire them to follow what they feel passionate about. My music education was integral to my development into an adult, and the WPHS music program is a quintessential part of the whole community.

The music program is one the best and most cherished programs in Woodland Park. Without funding and supporting it, we are letting down a huge demographic of students who are are talented in and passionate about the performing arts.

I am an alum of WPHS and my life was drastically shaped by miss Campbell and Mr. Chitchlow. I went on to get a degree I'm music because of their encouragement, support, and knowledge. It is absolutely crutial to have a qualified and experienced staff of music teachers, for the sake of the students and the community as a whole. Music and the arts should never be glazed over, skipped or condensed.

Let's be completely honest about this: the sports teams are mediocre at best. The arts programs have a storied history of excellence, and treating them like garbage and a chore by shoving instrumental and vocal music together. This action will only serve to lose children as they will seek this education elsewhere, and the school will lose more funding. Keep the school's population and funding, and keep the music programs separate!

This is outrageous. Teaching instrumental music is a full time job, how is one supposed to teach both? By lowering standards, that's how. It's the children that suffer.

You need to be highly qualified to.teach a subject, choral.and instrumental are spesrate parts of music. GET OVER IT

Instead of just a petition, I think it's time for all of us to show up at the school board msetting. Studies show that music students have higher scores in all other subjects, especially math. Vocal music is NOT the same as instrumental music. While a vocal teacher understands music, it is unlikely that they can teach the nuances of learning to play an instrument. Our students will be suffering.

Please don't take away funding and opportunities for arts and music in our school system -- without art and music, the students are missing out on some crucial experiences that help define them! These programs help round out their experiences and make them even more desiresble candidates for their college application process, as well as potential employers.

My children came through the program when the teachers were specialized as vocal or instrumental. Three of the four have either majors or minors (well, one is currently in process) in music related fields. The two who have finished their music programs are currently using them in life. One said that the music minor got her through her through the engineering program, plus it helped with her a scholarships. Similarly, some students stay in high school (or stay in OUR high school) because of the excellent, specialized music training. Plus, we have such a wonderful middle school music program, why water it down when they get to high school?

The wphs music program has always been comprehensive in order to prepare its students for futures in music. At the very least, the comprehensive program offered students multiple ways to explore art, and many activities to be involved in. As a wphs alumni, I can say that the music program was a huge part of my high school career, and kept me involved and afloat. Slashing this program apart will do no favors for the school or the students it serves. Please do not consolidate and shrink this program.

My son Ryan is currently in 7th grade at Woodland Park Middle School. He plays the french horn in the band. It has horrified me to see what is being done at the high school as far as band is concerned. Ryan hopes to go on to receive scholarships with his french horn and I don't think this can happen with the quality of the current instruction at the high school and the quality of the instruction being proposed. We just passed an increase in sales tax to give the school district more money.

I am a former resident of Woodland Park, and a musician. This is a terrible mistake that will damage WPHS's great music program. These are specialized teacher positions that cannot readily be combined.

I can't begin to explain how potentially heartbreaking this is. Music is such an important thing that all students should have the privilege to learn, the CORRECT and PROPER way, just like I and many others did while we attended WPHS. It helped formed who we all are today and future classes and generations deserve to have the same.
