This music program made me who I am today. It was a place to escape life and school and felt safe. I made the best of friends with these music programs. I would be devastated if I saw it disappear.

Here's what you need to know: This stuff with cutting music in the district has been going on for years. The cuts have been small and under the table, but they have happened. That band position was a FULL TIME position...numbers in the district have not changed so severely that the position can't still be full time. The district is not truthful when it says enrollment won't support two teachers.

I was in band every single year of high school and choir for 3 and they both played a monumental role in my life and not just for educational purposes, they formed my family. When will WPHS realize that the arts are so much more important to students than they think.

I graduated from wphs in 2010 and now am a drummer in multiple bands. It was integral to my education and provided community besides sports, skills with my work ethic and even scholarship opportunities for college. Please don't get rid of these programs!!!

As a graduate from WPHS, and a member of the variety of choral groups there, I can say with certainty that the specialized instruction of the choral and band programs provided me with a unique and invaluable instruction in the art of choral singing. The instructors in these programs are mentors; they need to have the freedom to get to know those kids with specialized interests. The arts are nuanced. They cannot be treated as a "catch-all" for students.

I cannot believe this is even a thing… Get it together WPHS, have you forgotten the history of your music programs? I seem to remember going to state every year while in Select Ladies which was more than the football team could say…

Students deserve the same education that's I received at WPHS. I was given the opportunity to find my passion and work on my skills. I'll be attending graduate school in the fall. Woodland Park was the start to that.

After graduating from WPHS, I've loved seeing many of my friends be inspired to pursue performance, whether it's vocal or instrumental. However, I feel like my peers and I were inspired because of how much individual attention we received while in the arts program. My friends who played in band went into music programs because they had so much mentorship from Mr. Dukart. Meanwhile, friends in choir felt encouraged and mentored by Ms. Campbell. To students involved in these art programs, many of them now have the potential to go on and pursue professions in the arts due to the attention they received while in high school. However, if you split up the two positions, that cuts all time that the teacher can spend with students in each discipline in half. Choir kids get half the attention, band kids get half the attention. It would be miserable for the kids, and it would be miserable for the teacher. To many of us who were in music classes in high school, music was a very real possibility for post-graduation pursuit, and many of us took that route.
Don't treat music as an elective, it's so much more than that. Give the students, both choir and instrumental, the attention they deserve.

I had an incredible experience in WPHS' choral music program. Expecting one teacher to do the job of two teachers will severely limit that experience for future students. These kids deserve better than this.

I speak for all WPHS students when I say, we woud love TWO FULL TIME teachers in our music department! Two qualified in band and choral conducting
