The music program at WPHS has a vast and rich history that must not be compromised! I personally experienced tremendous enrichment in my life in the WPHS music program, and urge you to ensure that highly skilled instructors continue to facilitate the legacy of music at WPHS.

As a former band member, Ladies/Madrigal member I can't stress enough how important these activities were for me. I lived for my music as a teenager and wouldn't have been involved in any other extracurricular activities if it wasn't for the music programs. It gave me confidence, a way to sort my emotions and an outlet for stress. Now as a counselor, I still see the value of music especially through a therapeutic perspective. It's invaluable and so imperative for our students to not lose such an important part to their development.

During my time at WPHS the music program was an integral part of the curriculum. WPHS would be losing a valuable and established program that has been developed over decades. Just look at the name on the auditorium if you need to know just how influential these programs have been over the past years.

I hope that the choir and band can stay at Woodland Park HS. Both my boys were involved in band and choir while attending WP High. They lived the programs and flourished there. I hope it stays for any years to come!

The previous teachers put too much time, effort, and love into these programs to have their legacies destroyed by an overworked and underpaid teacher.

This makes me very sad... I loved the music programs AS THEY WERE, when I was at WPHS. Seperate studies require seperate teachers, period.

Without the music, choral, and drama programs at WPHS, I wouldn't have been shaped into the strong willed individual I am today. These classes helped me to discover my passion for musical theatre. I am still a working actor to this day because of these programs. Art saves lives!

As an alumni of WPHS and the music program (both band and choral), I am saddened to hear that the administration could see the need for only one music educator for the high school programs. I cannot plead enough for the choral department and band department to remain with two appropriate different directors. WPHS holds a special place in my heart and what I have learned from Mr. Morton Dickson III is invaluable. It would be a shame to lose such an incredible legacy he has left behind!
These students deserve a quality education in all areas - music cannot possibly be sucked under one big umbrella. Choir, band, and orchestra are all different and I cannot even begin to try and understand how someone could think otherwise. You will not be able to find someone that can teach adequately in all of these different arts. Unless you are just wanting a music appreciation program and not a Fine Arts program. WPHS has been known for its strong Fine Arts programs for years! Why would you not want to keep that going?!

While both areas require extensive knowledge of music, they are very different when it comes to technique. Students require the dedication of two teachers. Having just one, no matter how good, will be a detriment to their education.

I was an exchange student in WPHS 2013-2014. It is the best school ever. I was part of two musicals and was in choir. I experienced the best moments of my exchange year being part of it! Don't take such opportunity from others!

I learned to play my first instrument in Woodland Park, and it changed the course of my life forever. Had I not been able to continue that, I would not be the successful person I am today.
I learned confidence, stage presence, and team work, all things I use every day in the business world.
We cannot take these essential programs from our children. We cannot boil it down to just a choir, or just a band, as not every child can do one or the other.
Music enriches lives, and has proven to increase intelligence and test scores. It is nothing but beneficial.

Burdening an already hard-working teacher with responsibility for both choral and music programs compromises both programs. Compromising both programs will trickle down to your home property values. This cut alone could sway a family shopping for a home today to look elsewhere than Woodland. Think about it. If Woodland is to continue being a preferred community to live in, then it needs to have better than mediocre schools and programs.

Woodland Park doesn't have much for the students to be involved in. Why lessen the amount of things that keep our kids doing good. You want more involvement and opportunities for our community, not less.
