I moved to Woodland Park for only six, short months. However during thst time frame, I learned 2 important things.
1. The people of Woodland Park are genuine and dear.
2. The people basically come out of the womb singing and dancing.
I've never witnessed so much talent and love and passion before, except for the beloved Broadway in New York City. This is a high school. Imagine what skill it takes to reach the level that they have achieved. Woodland Park lives for music, for talent. Music itself keeps us sane. Don't take this away from them.

As an instrumental teacher myself, I can stress the importance of having two separate teachers for choral and instrumental music. While I have basic understanding of choral technique, I know I would not be capable of providing adequate choral instruction. Even though it is possible to find instructors who are capable of teaching both, it would cause both programs to suffer. There is a considerable amount of effort that goes into running one program by itself, let alone both. Please reconsider this idea, for the kids sake.

Music is what we are great at sports mean nothing to this school. The arts are what make us who we are and allows us to discover who we are.

The music program at WPHS has been an award-winning highlight for the school and our small town. Perhaps we should siphon some funds from our less-than award-winning sports programs to hire faculty for music? If combining band and choir is a consideration, then why not consider combining football and baseball? Volleyball and soccer?

Music is as important as academics, it develops different parts of the brain and also helps with social maturity. To get up and perform also prepares students to stand in front of a boardroom or to give lectures. It would be awful to loose this important aspect of learning!

This is very sad....I said it for a couple years, have one band teacher for middle school AND high school, one choir teacher for middle school AND high school.
If the point is that there is enough interest in the middle school for an FTE for both solely at the middle school, then the problem is not enrollment numbers, the problem is with the high school....mainly, the schedule and AVAILABILITY of these activities...
Straight up, this all started downward when they moved away from the 8 period block schedule to the 7 period traditional schedule, but did not adjust accordingly for the arts...in my opinion.

This is idiotic. Music is a huge part of our children and for some, it is all they have!
