Please don't further destroy the public school band program by overloading a teacher with both choral & band responsibilities. My life was enriched during my grade school & high school years with the mentoring from the band directors whose experience and education we solely in emphasizing instrumental education. Thanks You

Music programs are shown to measurably improve math capabilities in even students heading for non music careers. Having been blessed by High School Participation in both vocal and instrumental music, the personal effort and specialization required will dictate one educator in each discipline. The school district's plan to proceed with one person will not be successful.

My daughter lost the best MS music teacher she ever had because of cutbacks and burnout. It tainted her passion for her instrument. Music has been scientifically proven to help students in other subjects. Please fund adequate staffing!

My kiddos are in elementary, but I am watching closely what occurs. Music education is very important to our family and I will be quick to taking my kids to CS if they can not get the music opportunities they need in woodland.

It's time to remedy this major problem! Although I have no children, as a taxpayer, I am more than willing to support the arts as part of an advanced civilization. These students deserve high-quality instruction, and our teachers deserve a fair workload at professional pay!

Go back to the block program and reinstate what WP used to be known for both with Madrigals/Choir and Band. It is proven students in music programs excel in math and science. It is so sad what has been allowed to happen at WPHS.

There are no words for the amount of ignorance to make such a wreckless decision to effect student growth. Is this what's best for students? Absolutely not. Just what's best for finances. Too bad though we are a service to the community, not to our personal wallets. The administrators should resign to make such calls about student rights and opportunities. Clearly they are the issue with education, not the solution.

Music student have on average higher grades and higher graduations rates. Students learn responsibility, dedication, creativity, motor skills, team-work. Dedicated, trained teachers are necessary.

As an instrumental music educator right out of college myself, I can attest that even after four years of a phenomenal music ed program, I am in no way prepared to teach choir. If assigned to teach vocal music and instrumental music at a high school level, my students in both groups would suffer greatly. I would not be able to give proper instruction to my choir students because of my lack of knowledge on the subject, and my instrumental students would not receive the personal attention that they need to develop their HS skills. These two disciplines are worlds apart, much like two different medical disciplines, and one instructor cannot be expected to teach both effectively. Please keep vocal and instrumental music separate, for the sake of all of your music students.

Want better students? Then not only keep but augment the music programs. As research and statistics show, students who are involved in a music program achieve higher scores in their schoolwork as well as displaying better behavior while pursuing admirable life-goals.

Music has been the best way I've known to teach the 21st-century skills we all talk about: grit, determination, goal setting, self-evaluation, social skills, leadership, creativity, teamwork, personal expression, and cultural history. Further, in our age of screentime, musical ensembles are a great way for all of us to work on our interpersonal skills as they, alongside sometimes scores of peers, work to evoke particular human emotions. Humanity needs art. Don't cut the music classes for these kids.

Our daughter was a Freshman at WPHS in 2013 and played flute in the band. The music program at that time was insufficient and we supplemented her music education through the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony. We then moved out of state and she continued her music education at a HS that recognized the value in a great music program. She was able to earn a music scholarship to Xavier University and is currently double majoring and playing in their symphony. Music is such a necessary part of education and WP would be doing a disservice to its students and community by combining aural and instrumental under one teacher. Try having your football Coach coach football and basketball at the same time.
