I'm the person I am today because of my experience in chorus, musical, and band in high school. Loosing WPHS' diverse arts program would be a HUGE loss to the community and will cause many students to seek opportunities from other schools who are willing to diversify :(

As a private music teacher of many of the District's students, it has grieved me deeply to witness what has happened to the Arts programs at Woodland Park High School. This is yet another boneheaded decision based on ignorance and poor fund management, and the STUDENTS will once again be the victims. To combine these two programs at WPHS would be the final nail in the coffin of an already floundering Music Department, and it will be felt in yet another overall enrollment drop as students flock down the mountain to nearby programs with administrations who DO fund the Arts, who DO care about their music students. The message has been sent loud and clear that the Arts are of little consequence in the grand scheme of this current administration. This series of terrible decisions surrounding the Arts department will continue to be to the District’s detriment and cost them dearly in even more enrollment lost. It is not fair to expect one teacher to build a dynamic, long lasting program that attracts students and KEEPS THEM ENROLLED, and do it excellently in both musical disciplines. Graduates with Music Education degrees SPECIALIZE in either vocal or instrumental music, NOT BOTH. In the eleven years we've lived in Woodland Park, we have watched the music department go from being a feather in the District's cap--to the point Woodland Park High School could easily have become a performing arts charter school--to needing to be on life support! Please wake up before you no longer have a school district to run! PLEASE DON'T KILL THE MUSIC DEPARTMENT ALTOGETHER! Hire TWO qualified people with VISION and HEART to build TWO thriving music programs at Woodland Park High School! You might just keep these young students we see each week in our studio who can’t wait to be old enough to perform on your Dickson Auditorioum stage! They are counting on you!

We need this program to continue showing the importance of music in today's society. I personally believe that it also teaches our students more social skills by putting them out there to put together something that they can call there own.

Please keep the music programs at WPHS! They provide so many opportunities to those kids, as well as life long lessons. I was an athlete and involved in my HS orchestra, concert band, pit orchestra, pep band, marching band. I cannot say enough for the experiences those groups provided for to become the person I am today. Please do what's best for kids and save the programs.

As a former WPHS marching band member, I have seen how much dedication and time goes into that particular musical discipline. To ensure that both the vocal and instrumental disciplines receive the individualized time they deserve, it is critical that the positions remain serperated. It is in the students' best interest to study under an instructor that is dedicated to that particular field.

If an athletic sport is doing bad or hasn't shown support by the community it isn't cut. Don't start with something you can't live without. Music is in the air, lets keep it there. We need to find a way to draw music professionals into Woodland Park. The negativity needs to go. The kids will lose out and some will choose to move on/out to other schools. Way too much politics going on around here for me!

Woodland Park High School should absolutely have two music teachers. Vocal and Instrumental music are not the same subject and require different expertise. I absolutely support what is best for the arts and hope the district is able to find a way to keep the arts programs thriving. There have been many many cuts and set-backs these past few years that have created deep losses in the arts programs. What's next? I doubt a double choir/band teacher is going to want to host both a Spring and Fall musical. Talk about burnout.

The arts and music departments were the only good part about the extracurricular sat WPHS. They were the gem found among the terrible sports teams we had. It would be devastating for so many of they disappeared.

It would be absolutely tragic to continue to denegrade the quality of the arts education in WPSD. There are so many students with interest and talent in the arts in our community. There should be a concerted effort to provide excellence as well as opportunity in our schools.

The arts are one of the only strong programs at Woodland Park High School. Take them away and our school looses its appeal to the huge demographic of artistic students that live in the Woodland Park area.
