Save our Water Lanes

I used to walk through the water la es regularly as a child and sometimes saw kingfishers there. It is a special and tranquil area and should not be ruined by covering the stream with a grille. This would lead to children and others speeding through on cycles putting pedestrians in danger and ruining the peace and quiet

Used them as a child to get to school and bike riders simply dismounted for pedestrians or rode past problem free. Why was it okay for Amherst and St Peter Port secondary students for so many years but not older students (who will probably drive in cars or use motorbikes anyway). Collings Road was always busy then as well. Let's be realistic, bike users will use the lanes even if it's prohibited, after all, what's the worst that could happen to them, we take away their cycling proficiency certificate! Don't spoil the Water Lanes and at least wait to see if there's a real problem first.

If the States have that much money available to grid over a historical area that no one has ever drowned in. Can they stop the craziness and spend it on something the Guernsey community want.. Make Collins Road one way, also the New School. most of the kids will be on Scooters and Motor Bikes.. Not Push Bikes. DO NOT GET A CONSULTANT in to review the issue that will cost hundreds just listen to the people.

I live in 100m away and my daughters love walking our dog and playing leaf races in the stream. It's beautiful and relaxing, cyclists should not be allowed to race through here and it would mean pedestrians would have to use Collings Road with cars having to mount the pavement... Not a safe option at all.

Water lanes are historical, beautiful and should remain for the good of the environment and for the generations to come. It’s part of what makes Guernsey so quaint. Cycles can get off their bikes and walk.

Lived around there all through my teens and used them daily!! Keep the water lanes for pedestrians, why change it now. I think there are more problems on this island to address then grating a stream!!!

do not spoil a beautiful water lane

I live in this area and think this is the wrong solution to a problem caused by the dangers of Collings Road. The roads themselves need to be looked at (e.g. by making Collings Road one way), but please leave the historic water lanes alone. They should be a safe, tranquil path for pedestrians - so many people like families walking to Amherst School, and dog walkers, use them every day. Please, deputies and civil servants, listen to Guernsey residents on this issue - I’m yet to meet a single one who’s in favour of this proposal.

My partner and her family have so many fond memories of this area and it's 1 of the things that makes Guernsey so unique and special.

Leave the water lanes alone I’ve lived around here for 64 years

Don't let another part of our heritage be scrapped

please leave this beautiful place alone.. these places are few and far between and not only a memory of my childhood it is still used frequently by myself when dog walking. such a gorgeous tranquil place and we want to concrete it over and take away this stunning little walk... leave it alone

Keep the water lanes for pedestrians.

Please sort Collings Road out & make that safe for all appropriate traffic rather than destroying this historic lane.

There is a sensible compromise where cyclists could use this lane, but give way to pedestrians without the need to cover the stream

If this is allowed to happen it will be a determent to the area. Any harbour in France is not covered to has barricades to stop stupid people from doing stupid things.

By all means provide safe areas for cyclists, but this is a step too far and in my opinion penalizes the majority by denying them one of the few remaining unspoiled areas on the outskirts of St Peter Port.

Used to live near there and walked to dogs through there almost every day. Leave it as it is!

It's a beautiful area, with the stream, and needs to be preserved.
