Save our Water Lanes

This is a beautiful peaceful area for walking the dogs, an oasis in the middle of a busy area. We would like to keep it this way for future generations to come. The grids would be a danger to wildlife, the ducks that swim in the streams, and to the dogs who walk down there. Please leave it as it is. If cyclists need to cut through they can dismount. This would be a lot safer for young children who also enjoy these lanes.

I’ve walked that lane all my life having grown up above Moulin Huet and it would be a crying shame to cover the stream for cyclists. It will only lead to speeding down the lane putting pedestrians and dog walkers at risk.

This historic gem should remain unaltered.

If you are afraid of Collings Road…take an alternate route. Every time these Lycra clad pillocks want to push something through its “think of the children”. Well I asked the kids And they don’t want to kill off the wild life either.

Covering the duit is unwanted and unnecessary. This in addition to extra lighting in the area would ruin what is a little gem of Guernsey and disrupt the wildlife in the area

There is absolutely no reason to grid the stream over. People have walked this lane for years and no accidents. Keep it for pedestrians and allow cyclists to dismount through it

Utter madness, will have devastating effect on the area and likely lead to more accidents between cyclists/pedestrians.

Stop trying to "fix" things all the time that are not broken.

What a ridiculous idea to cover them. Get off your ludicrous horse and sort out homelessness and poverty

This proposal to change the Water Lanes is complete nonsense. When I first came to Guernsey as an 11 year old I would use the lanes to head to Footes Lane sports fields and as a child being able to walk alongside a stream in that tranquil environment was quite magical and it remains so. The perceived Health & Safety risk is massively overstated. If we are going to seek to protect people from "falling in the stream" we perhaps should consider covering up every piece of granite by a road with protective foam. Anyone who goes through the lanes is aware of the stream and takes appropriate precautions. I have used them for over 50 years without ever being aware of a problem.

NO NO NO Why can’t cyclists simply dismount and walk - it is a matter of say 100 yards. Stupid idea

I walk through the lanes at least twice a day with my dog and meet so many people doing the same it would b so wrong to let them go ahead with their plans they have to be stopped.
