How on earth can our town centres be regeneratedd when small businesses are crippled in n this way?

So, it's better to have yet another empty retail unit in the town centre than allow these small businesses the rates that they deserve? Beggars belief.

This is ridiculous at a time when Inverness town centre is dying on its ass mainly because of crazy rents and even crazier rates to put several business,s under and im sure that would be the effect for the want of increased rates beggers belief. So the rates will rocket, business's will close people will lose their jobs and yet another shop unit will be empty in the centre of Inverness! Im a small business owner myself and my rateable value falls beneath the threshold so I get 100% rates relief. If i wasnt eligible for this I know for certain I would not be trading still today and would not be in a position to employ staff. It seems to to be a very short sited view that will not bring in more money only ruin business's and suck what little life is left from the "old town".

In the Village's surruonding area there are 15 empty lots and numerous betting shops (3 on Queensgate within steps of each other!)
Is this favourable to small, innovate community hubs, loved by the local people and envied by other towns and cities?

Towns all across England and Ireland are cherished for their beautiful pedestrian town centres. Whilst many of Inverness' beautiful buildings were knocked down in the 1950s inkeeping with the 'change is good' mantra, surely the council should take off their blinkers to support some of the few inspiring things the centre has left to offer!

yeah, I guess another tesco metro would be welcomed with open arms in that space, just to make sure the butchers across the road (which has been there for over 50 years) closes down asap

as usual the council are more interested in the money than trying to keep the town alive and vibrant. they will soon be renaming inverness the ghost town
