David Stewart MSP is leading calls to "Save Our Slots" following the decision of FlyBe to sell its take off and landing slots at London Gatwick airport to EasyJet. These slots are important to the Highlands & Islands economy and it is vital that provision of air services is not left to commercial interest alone but that the social and economic importance is also taken into consideration.
Consequently, we call upon the UK Government to:
1) Protect these economically important flights by developing an air transport policy for the Highlands & Islands which helps provide the essential links with the rest of the UK and the wider world.
2) Impose a Public Service Obligation to protect the air services, which are vital for the region's economic development.

Living in the highlands is hard enough without losing our connections down south. We depend on these flights for hospital trips and business. The government needs to wake up and stop letting easyjet take everything.
