Please reconsider the provision of a free school bus for the safety of our children who will be at risk walking along the A49 each morning. Whilst I understand walking to school is desirable for many reasons, today's volume of traffic and the speed and types of vehicle that travel the A49 at rush hour presents a wholly unacceptable risk to our youngsters.

This needs to be reviewed ASAP as the walk we did this morning is totally unacceptable.

My children are not of high school age yet but, the thought of them walking down a busy bypass to school makes me feel ill. How can the council be so blasé about children's lives?!

Clearly not a safe route in dark conditions.

For our children's safety I implore you to reconsider this outrageous decision. This heavily congested route is far from safe for youngsters to walk alone during day or night. Think to yourselves, would you risk your own child to walk this route.

It is too far to walk along that road and the country lanes from the village are definitely not safe. Also the lighting on the road is not sufficient to be safe for the children for the winter and spring terms. Surely a subsidized bus service would be better than no service at all.

It is ridiculous to think this is a safe route to school. Take your money saving cuts elsewhere please.

When my children went to Weaverham HS over twenty years ago it was deemed too dangerous. Why has it become safe?

As a grandmother I am extremely concerned at this dangerous decision to cut the school bus. I don't want my granddaughter to risk her life walking every day along the busy A49. This decision must be overturned. Take care of the young they are our future.

It's not just a case of saving our school bus it's about saving our children's lives. Would the Council expect a child to walk along the hard shoulder of the M6 - well this isn't far off it.

Just because a pedestrian crossing has been added doesn't make it a safe route for the children to walk along - this is an accident waiting to happen don't be rediculous! Pupil Safety first, please.
