Pole Fitness has been forced to close and we need your help! Please sign below to show your support.

Pole Fitness is exactly what it says on the tin. There are two all-inclusive classes that take place a week at the Springfield Community Centre on the edge of Thorpe Edge in Bradford. The classes are run by Miranda Hodgkin at an affordable price of just £6 per session. Miranda has been teaching Pole for 11 years - 2 happy years at the Community Centre.

Recently Miranda was informed that the classes would have to stop as the committee are struggling to see 'where pole fits in the new plans for the centre as it doesn't benefit young people'.

Either Miranda pays a high fee for the room (much higher than the average hire fee for a space in of that size, in that area) and she won't have sole usage, meaning she would have to spend approximately 3 hours installing and uninstalling the poles before and after each session; or she leaves and closes the classes.

OUR LAST CLASS IS 30th MAY! After that, the countless women who benefit from this local, affordable fitness service will have to seek other classes (costing at least double the price) or stop altogether.

Pole fitness is not about strip clubs, it is accessible for males and females, above the age 12 years. It is an intense form of calisthetic workout which builds strength and muscle.

Bradford is an area of the country that already has a low engagement with the arts. Pole fitness is an art, and these classes regularly have 20 attendees per week. Women and men engaging with art on a regular basis.

People who attend the classes often experience their strength levels improving and an increase in confidence. Many attendees are parents, parents who leave class, stronger and more confident - more positive role models for their own and other children. We have many individual reports where these classes have helped people through difficult times through the friendships they have made and the sense of community in the classes.

Long story short - these classes mean a lot to many people, and we are deeply upset that Pole Fitness has been pushed into a corner in this way. We want our voices heard and we need your help to amplify them and get the powers that be to listen to the little people.

With classes so full, it is clear it is what the community want. So why on earth take this away from them. These fitness classes are empowering and give more than just physical fitness. Surely there is enough space and nights to satisfy both pole and yoga ??

all fitness regimes need equipment, weights, trampolines, exercise bikes, rowing machines etc etc so what is the problem here, this discipline needs poles, what is difficult to understand?

When Bradford is being shamed as an "obese town " , to close any exercise class is criminal . This is a brilliant form of exercise for young people .

This class makes this specialist sport accessible and affordable for all. Surely promoting structure, discipline, hard work and physical fitness for those who cannot afford a gym membership fits in well with the vision of a community centre.

Not only have these classes helped keep me physically fit they have been a lifeline to me through tough points in my life. The friends I have made have provided support, at times a shoulder to cry on, and a well needed distraction or laugh at others. Losing these classes will create a bigger impact of people's lives than just a loss of practice space. They provide a very valuable service to the local community.

I started Pole 3 years ago and was instantly welcomed into the family. I've gained some lovely friends and everyone in the class really cares about each other. I've not found this in any other fitness class that I attend.

As a former pornstar and stripper, this problem is very important to me. #savethepoles
